Description

London, held for six days in January 1987, recorded the first half of the performance at the Royal Albert Hall (6th to 8th) in stereo audience recording for all performances. This performance, which has never been released before, is the first appearance, but it uses unreleased original master cassettes and all three performances are recorded with ultra-high sound quality that you can’t ask for any more! The straight and dynamic sound with an edge that is almost not felt, which is peculiar to the Royal Albert Hall, is so wonderful that it gives you goosebumps! (Only Crossroads on the 7th performance is recorded in mono due to poor contact, but even that part is recorded with superb high sound quality.) The 7th performance was distributed only among traders as a very good stereo audience source, but all three performances from the 6th to the 8th are the first appearance source, the highest sound quality, so this release will be irresistible for fans! The set list is almost fixed, but only the 6th performance incorporates Wanna Make Love To You. Despite the good response from the audience and the high quality of both the song and the performance, for some reason it was removed from the set list (it was revived as a standard song on the 1989 tour). This was a five-piece band with Mark Knopfler’s official participation, a form that had not been seen in the previous year of 1986 or the following year of 1988 (Knopfler was off-season with Dire Straits at this time, and he participated voluntarily as a thank you for Clapton’s surprise appearance at Dire Straits’ Christmas concert at the end of 1985). However, Knopfler’s unique obbligatos were outstanding at every performance, and the unique and tricky playing that only he could express, which can be heard on “I Shot The Sheriff”, “Miss You” and “Layla”, are must-listen! As you can see from Eric’s overwhelming solo at Layla on the 7th (the 7th is Eric’s mother’s birthday, which he tells us in his final comment), Eric’s aggressive playing, inspired by Knopfler’s participation, is also explosive throughout the entire album! At the 8th performance, Sting and Steve Winwood guest-starred on the encore songs Money For Nothing and Sunshine Of Your Love, which are also worth listening to. (Sting is thought to be on vocals only, but Winwood probably participated on vocals and keyboards.) This is the start of the Royal Albert Hall series, which is synonymous with the UK performance, and is a precious first appearance sound source that fans cannot miss, and it has been luxuriously packaged with the ideal sound that you could not ask for any more, and it has been decided to release the ultimate item on CD!
