Description

This album was produced by Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall in London in early 1989, building on the momentum of his highly successful 1988 world tour, commemorating the 25th anniversary of his professional debut. This is a complete recording of the stage on January 28th, which was the 7th performance from the 12 consecutive performances, with a good stereo audience recording. This tour was the first since the Japan tour held from October to November of the previous year. This Royal Albert Hall continuous performance had a difference in taste as the first six days were performed with 4 pieces and the latter six days with 9 pieces. This was because Clapton himself wanted to enjoy both bands, a small group and a large family. This album captures the stage on the first day of the second half, and features Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, who participated in the previous year’s tour as a friend, as well as the same band’s keyboard player Alan Clark, percussion, and female chorus. The lineup was as follows. However, the set list has changed, and the topic was that they played the famous song Bell Bottom Blues, which was included in the masterpiece “LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS”, for the first time in 14 years since the 1975 tour. Furthermore, it is also worth listening to that this year’s Japan tour also included Wanna Make Love To You, which was played for the first time in a while, and Forever Man, which was played for the first time in a big band. Furthermore, on this day, there was an incident in which Carole King, a treasure of female singer-songwriters, appeared on two songs. You may be wondering, “Why Carole King?” In fact, Clapton played guitar on two songs in the recording session for King’s album “CITY STREETS” released on April 3 of that year, and it is said that King jumped into this performance as a way of thanking him. It was. The session probably took place just before this. Since it is not a soundboard recording, it is difficult to hear King’s chorus in After Midnight, but in Can’t Find My Way Home, she is assigned the vocals for the second chorus, and you can clearly hear her vocals. (I used to memorize the lyrics well). I think it would be a pleasure for fans to be able to listen to the sound source of the day when such an unexpected incident occurred. After this, the tour continued to Europe, and the second guitar was replaced by Phil Palmer from Knopfler. Therefore, the appearance of Knopfler supporting the two songs mentioned above could only be heard in the latter six days of this RAH continuous performance.
