Description
This is a 2CD complete recording of the first day of Eric Clapton’s Honolulu, Hawaii performance immediately after his 1977 Japan tour, with a high-quality monaural audience recording. Until now, this Hawaii performance was called a sound board sound source, and in fact the same year’s BBC “Old Gray Whistle Test” sound source was fraudulently recorded and released, but this time it is a genuine Honolulu performance sound source. The master was uploaded on the internet, and was apparently recorded at the time by loading a Maxell cassette into a Panasonic monaural cassette recorder. This version is used for this version, but this version is a significantly upgraded version of this master. Originally, the sound had a fluffy, muffled impression, but we made adjustments to lower the mid-bass range and raise the treble range, transforming it into a tighter sound. Also, the original Netmaster had a major drawback in the encore songs Tell The Truth and Key To The Highway, where the pitch would randomly go out of order during the song due to tape deterioration. At our store, we have corrected the pitch to a level that feels as comfortable as possible. It was so random that it was out of order, so you can still see the traces even after it is corrected, but when you compare it with the former master, the degree of improvement is obvious. Furthermore, with the former master’s Layla, the excited audience stood up and surrounded the recorder, which caused the sound to become muffled. However, this is also relaxed as much as possible at our store. The significance of reducing the shortcomings so far with time and effort and releasing it on a press CD is that Clapton’s play quality on this day was outstandingly high. Anyway, as you can see if you listen to it, the solos in the numbers played with electric are not half bad. At their Japan performance this year, they performed a number from their masterpiece “Slowhand”, which had not yet been released at the time, for the first time, and here in Honolulu, from the opening, they performed a flowing phrase with a sharp edge. I am. This is a typical day when Clapton is like this when he’s in good shape. I would like you to listen to this sharpness. In addition, Yvonne Elliman from Hawaii, who had already left the Clapton band at this point due to the resumption of her solo career, jumped in with Can’t Find My Way Home and encore on this day! She must have returned to Hawaii at this time. It’s so exciting that some customers can be heard shouting “She’s No. 1!” in front of Can’t Find My Way Home. This is the part where you can clearly see that she was a local superstar who decorated her hometown with brocade. Also, at Layla, the Everly Brothers’ All I Have To Do Is Dream was played in place of the piano coda, but it was rare that this song was played jointly in that year (Japan performance was performed on October 6th). (It was only performed at the Budokan performance on Sunday.) They will also be performing the rare blues It’s Too Bad, which they also performed in Tokyo, so you can enjoy a rich set list and performance. Due to tape capacity, Key To The Highway is only recorded for a little over two minutes, but it can still be said that this performance is valuable content. Please enjoy the stage of the genuine Hawaii performance, which also included Yvonne Elliman, with our upgraded version of this edition.
