Description
Extremely rare! The Apple acetate version of Ginger Baker’s first solo album has been released directly on CD. Even among the world’s most famous collectors, only a few top collectors know of its existence, and it is believed that this is the only copy in existence in the world. Just seeing the typed letters of ERIC CLAPTON on the Apple label is enough to make you shiver with excitement. I think it will be even more moving if you listen to it with an understanding of the historical background of the time. Eric Clapton’s first solo album has three different mixes. The mix by Atlantic Records’ famous engineer Tom Dowd has been included since its release in 1970. And the mix by Delaney Bramlett, who encouraged and backed up Clapton to produce a solo album, which was first released on the deluxe edition of the album. And the mix by Clapton himself, which was finally released in 2020. The reason why Clapton’s own mix was released so late is because there were too many differences from the Tom Dowd mix. In 1970, Delaney was tasked with mixing the album, but Clapton took one master tape back to England, so Delaney was waiting for the mixed-down tape of that song, while Clapton was waiting for the tapes of all the other songs mixed by Delaney. Atlantic Records got impatient and released the album with the Dowd mix, but while Clapton was waiting for the tape from Delaney, he ordered the master tape himself and mixed it himself. However, Clapton was not confident about his first attempt at mixing. After finishing the mix, Clapton wanted to hear his thoughts, so he cut his mix into acetate at Apple Records and gave it to his former friend Ginger Baker. We got our hands on this rare acetate! It was definitely a Clapton mix! Although there are some scratch noises because it is an acetate record, the analog-chic Clapton mix on acetate is exceptional. CD2 contains the sound source from the master tape owned by MVR. The jacket, which uses rare outtake photos from the recording session, is also attractive, far surpassing the tacky design of the official 4CD box. DISC 1 Apple Acetate/Owner of GINGER BAKER 01.
