Description
From a must-have label for Clapton fans, this is a complete recording of the live performance at the Sacramento Convention Center in California on February 6th, said to be the best performance of the 1983 tour, from the best quality audience master. After the only US tour of the year in June of the previous year, in the fall, he moved from Polydor, where he had been for many years, to Warner Brothers and started production of “Money and Cigarettes”. However, there were various troubles during the endless sessions in Nassau, and after the album release, he completely replaced the band members except for some, and started a US tour in Seattle on February 1, 1983. This recording is from the very early performance, the fourth performance since the start of the tour, and the members at this time were Donald Duck Dunn, Roger Hawkins, Albert Lee, and Chris Stainton. However, on February 15th, Roger Hawkins left the band and Jamie Oldaker took over, and the tour was completely different in nature from before to after. In addition, the set list at the beginning was a combination of numbers from the album and standard songs, but after that, it was gradually cut out, and it was probably because of the discomfort with the old songs, the lack of stickiness in the groove, and the resulting performance was inevitably light, which led to the choice to replace Jamie. On the other hand, in the songs from the album that emphasized lightness, the band’s unique sharp rhythm was fully demonstrated. And in the performance with that rare set list, Clapton’s passionate performance was the most amazing, especially his unique sharp fast-playing phrases were displayed everywhere. Moreover, his phrasing is unusual in that it slows down the pace and then slowly builds up again, as is evident in his solos in “Cocaine.” Furthermore, on this day, “Layla” also performed a solo that showed off a truly wonderful and dazzling development, and this play is rare not only in 1983 but also in other years, so it is a must-listen.
