Description

Elvis Costello’s first solo tour was in 1984. The appeal of this stage was that it allowed Costello to listen to his songs in detail, which was different from the aggressive stages he performed with the Attractions, which he had been with for many years. It was also popular among enthusiasts that because he was on stage alone, he was able to choose from a wide variety of songs. This is a very popular tour. Although there was a wealth of sound sources from this tour, there were relatively few items, and only a few CDs of the stages in Europe from the latter half of the same year were released, one of which was an analog version. That’s how it is. And above all, the one that stood out in terms of interesting song selection was America in the spring, which was his first solo tour in 1984. The final performance of this short solo tour was held on May 1st at the Universal Amphitheater in LA. Audience recordings of this day’s performance have been circulating among traders for some time, but what we are releasing this time is a completely different sound source that appeared on the Internet for the first time this year. The JEMS team, which has long been strong in Costello, discovered this valuable audience recording. It seems that there are maniacs who have decided on this fact alone, but the actual quality is wonderful. Even if it does not reach the level of a sound board, it is quite impressive. What’s more, this is Costello’s singing stage, and if the closeness of his singing voice stands out, even non-maniacs will be able to enjoy it. However, what makes this sound source regrettable is that the recording was interrupted when the encore “I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down” started. As a result, the country corner with T Bone Burnett, who served as the undercard at the end of the live performance, was not recorded. Regarding this defect, we considered using a conventional sound source, but while the audience recording had clear sound quality, the hiss became louder as the live progressed, and above all, the voices of the surrounding audience members were (quite…) noisy. It is said that he was holding a Especially, the hissing noise at the end of the live performance that should be used as compensation is hard to handle, and the discomfort between the sound sources can be more stressful…So this time, we will introduce JEMS, which is attractive because it can be heard with peace of mind. It was released in a way that respects the newly discovered sound source. After all, it captures all the important parts of the day. One of the charms of this tour is the timeless staging in which he performs his own songs not only on acoustic guitar but also on electric and piano, but he also performed solo-like songs such as “Yes It Is” by the Beatles and “Sleepless Nights” by Gram Parsons. It’s great that he takes his time listening to songs that he has feelings for. Moreover, the JEMS sound source this time has Costello’s voice so close that you can’t help but fall in love with it. However, even though there were no Attractions on stage, the power of “Mystery Dance” was still intact, and the audience was very enthusiastic about this performance. And what is particularly attractive about this day in the short-term solo tour in the spring of 1984 is John Hyatt’s jump in the encore. During this period, Costello sang Hyatt’s famous song “She Loves The Jerk” several times on stage, but he invited Hyatt to his stage for a duet (on the contrary, Costello jumped on his stage) There was a day when I did it) It was the only time that I did it later or later. The acoustic duet in which the two share vocals is exquisite. This precious moment was captured in consistent JEMS quality, making it all the more moving. Costello has released a number of rare live sound sources so far, but this is the first solo stage in the 1980s, when he was at his peak. Full of famous songs, please thoroughly enjoy this show that can be called a sample of live singing and singing with the wonderful sound quality that only JEMS can provide.
