Description
“ELF” is a band that can be said to be the origin of Ronnie James Dio. This is a valuable soundboard album. This work contains two soundboard sound sources. The first is the band’s early studio sessions, and the second is a live show in Cortland from January to February 1972. Both can be fully enjoyed with the official stereo sound board. In fact, after Ronnie’s death, “AND BEFORE ELF… THERE WERE ELVES” was officially released, but it is an excerpt of 4 studio session songs and 8 live songs. What’s more, the order of the songs was changed drastically, and people were wondering, “Why would they do this?” On the other hand, this work has 6 studio songs + 19 live songs, so you can enjoy plenty of valuable records. Inside is a precious history of Ronnie’s early years. At this time, ELF was already composed of the same four members as their debut album “ELF”, and in addition to Gary Drescol (drums) and Mickey Lee Soule (keyboards), who would also participate in “Ginrei no Conqueror”, the guitarist was David Feinstein. Ronnie also serves as the bassist, and in addition to his youthful singing voice as he was still in his 20s, you can also enjoy his skillful bass skills. You can listen to “Rosemarie” and “Saturday Night” which are not officially recorded in the studio version, but what is especially interesting is the live performance. There are 11 more songs than the official version, but the songs included are interesting. As if there weren’t enough originals, a lot of covers of famous songs were played. The lineup is amazing, including JETHRO TULL’s “Crosseyed Mary” and “Aqualung,” FACES’ “Stay With Me,” and HUMBLE PIE’s “Four Day Creep.” Furthermore, there was a medley cover of THE WHO’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Baba O’Riley,” as well as LED ZEPPELIN’s “Black Dog” and “You Shook Me.” British rock masterpieces pop out one after another as if it were a favorite tape. The highlight is BLACK SABBATH’s “War Pigs” at the end! I never would have dreamed that 10 years later I would actually be singing the same song as the front of BLACK SABBATH. I don’t know if these selections are Ronnie’s, but it is clear that American Ronnie James Dio had the soul of British rock. It is a live performance where Ronnie’s singing skill stands out especially since he did not do many covers after RAINBOW. A large amount of studio recordings and live performances that far exceed the official ones. It is not only a super valuable early ELF soundboard, but also a masterpiece where you can enjoy Ronnie singing plenty of famous British rock songs.
