Description

The identity of the “mysterious superb live album” has been revealed! It has been decided to re-release it with a new title and new jacket. The identity of this work is the masterpiece “TOUR ’86” that was released last spring and became a big hit. While boasting an incredible high-quality sound, the MC does not mention any place or venue names, and it is completely different from any live recordings known so far. It was a mysterious audience album with no idea when or where the live was. The master was given to it by a famous recordist, but this recordist went missing after that. A year and a half has passed since then. We managed to track down the recordist and have now confirmed the performance date. The scene was the “Madison Square Garden performance on September 20, 1986” (the recording that was previously said to be the MSG performance was incorrect. It is probably the “East Rutherford performance on September 13”). If you are only interested in the sound, please ignore this, but we have decided to re-release it with a new jacket to preserve the truth of history. The two biggest full recordings of EL & POWELL are “HEADING FOR GLORY” from the “September 12, 1986 Philadelphia performance” and “FABULOUS SHOW” from the “September 16 Mansfield performance”. However, this work is comparable to those two big recordings, and is a hyper sound that can be proudly called “the three big recordings”. In fact, the extremely clear musical sound is like a shining sound board. Although it is slightly covered with the reverberation of the venue, even that is transparent, and the sharp edges of Keith Emerson’s dancing fingertips, Greg Lake’s gorilla bass, and Cozy Powell’s heavy kick are not impaired in the slightest. The synth creates a spacey worldview, the singing voice resonates majestically, and the drums rush forward like heavy tanks. The sound world that only these three people can create spreads out beautifully. Not only is the recording excellent, but the freshness is also superb. The generation is the highest peak because the master is from the person who recorded it. The volume changes (slightly) at the beginning of “The Score” as if checking the volume, and there is also a tape change cut at 4:27 of “Pictures At An Exhibition”, but other than that, there are no flaws that seem to be flaws. There is no distortion or noise, and the stability is excellent. No matter how famous the recording, it is not easy to overcome the test of 30 years. However, this work has performed that feat brilliantly. The world of EL & POWELL depicted with that quality is exactly the utopia of the keyboard trio. Of course, I won’t say something rude like “better than Carl Palmer…”, but this unit is the only ensemble that can push up the unique Emerson music with a strong beat for each hit. Moreover, Cozy is not just a power hitter, but is well versed in classical music, and has used Tchaikovsky and Holst as themes for his drum solos throughout his career, and has loved flashy performances. That’s why he is good at “more dramatic” and “more flashy” performances. He sometimes competes with Emerson’s keyboard with its strong attack, and sometimes supports it, making it more dramatic. In fact, Cozy was very satisfied with this show, and he is very diligent, writing a diary even during the tour and recording the performance of each night’s show. According to his diary, he gave this day a score of “9.5 points (out of 10)”. The Lakeland performance, which is famous for its official version, was given a score of “3 points”, so you can see how satisfied he was. If Emerson is a jewel that shines in seven colors, Cozy is a powerful spotlight, so to speak. While he himself emits an intense light, he also hits it and makes Emerson shine brightly! ………I got a little excited and my writing ran. I’m sorry. However, the more I want to write that, the more I can’t stop writing, the more beautiful the sound of this work is, and the performance is dazzling. That’s it. The enthusiasm of the Americans who witnessed such a show is also amazing. Although the musical tones are completely in control, the cheers that rise there are definitely a reality that can only be achieved by recording from the audience. Cozy is extremely popular in Japan, but he was almost unknown in America at the time. RAINBOW and MSG continued to struggle in America, and WHITESNAKE quit just before their big break. He was known only to core rock fans as a former member of the JEFF BECK GROUP. At first, EL&POWELL was treated as “Who?”, but as the tour progressed, it changed to “Who is this guy!” In this work, such an anecdote seems to be condensed into one performance, and as the show progresses, you can feel the excitement and enthusiasm for the new EL&P sound. A shining recording with the mysterious veil finally lifted. Both Keith and Cozy are already dead, and this sound will never appear again. However, even if it was only for 11 weeks, the miraculous unit existed on this earth. And it certainly excited the people who were there. This is a precious and exquisite record.
