Description

This is the first appearance of the Boston Garden performance on February 4, 1978, recorded for about 2 hours with an extremely high-quality audience recording. Uses the new master released by Dan Lumpinski. It is certainly an amazing recording version that has never been available before. What is shocking is the ultra-high sound quality, which is definitely top-class among Lampinski sound sources, and it is hard to believe that it is an analog recording at the time. When you listen to it, there is a certain sense of unreality, it is truly unprecedented. Recorded in super sound. Coinciding with the release of “Works Vol. 2,” this was the 18th performance of the North American tour held from January to March 1978. During this period, ELP had an intense schedule of live performances that could be said to be almost the day before. The completeness and tension of the performance are wonderful, and fans will be irresistible to be able to listen to the performance with such high quality sound. Of course, Keith’s wonderful fingering is at its peak, but Greg’s singing voice at this time is at its peak in both volume and technique, and you can enjoy his unique and attractive deep voice with the best sound. From the end of The Enemy God to the beginning of Nutrocker and Pirates on this day, there is a missing part of about 5 minutes of recording, which is unusual for a Lampinski take, probably due to a delay in the tape change or some kind of trouble at that time. . Since Nutrocker was not originally recorded, I did not forcefully insert takes from other performances, but the cut points were Piano Concert No.1 1st Movement 0:36-0:44 and Pictures At An Exhibition 10. :37 to 10:43, and the aforementioned Pirates’ 0:00 to 1:20 are each borrowed from the Providence performance take of the previous year’s “wWorks” tour from the same Lampinski recording, and are supplemented without any discomfort. (It’s hard to understand unless you tell me.) The cut from 1:31 to 2:00 of Show Me The Way To Go Home has been supplemented from the line recording of the previous year’s Wheeling performance without any discomfort. You can understand the high quality of this sound source, as the sound quality is such that if you do not insert the line recording, the connection will be unnatural. There are other recording troubles that can be confirmed before Lucy Man, but this is also caused by the master. However, these defects can be said to be trivial in front of this two-hour first appearance sound source. The Lampinski sound source has a sound quality that is as if it was recorded by bringing a DAT recorder to the Boston Garden in 1978. Hoedown, who can enjoy a sharp performance, Tarkus, which is grand and spacey, Take A Pebble, which has a piano concerto inserted, and Pictures At An Exhibition, which entertains the listener with a different charm from the first half of the 70s. Furthermore, there is a variety of song selections in the second half, and there are plenty of dynamic performances and listening points of Pirates and Fanfare For The Common Man, two major ELP songs that produce the gigantic peak of the show, and all of them are recorded in the highest level of sound quality. You can enjoy it. I think it was partly due to the influence of the PA on the day, but as the concert progressed, the sound quality, which was originally good, seemed to improve even more as the concert progressed, and from the middle of Disc 1 to the entirety of Disc 2, it was recorded with a truly unusual sound. . Official live performances and videos of this period’s tour have been released, but this highest quality audience recording version conveys the band’s high-quality performance more directly and attractively than the official or broadcast sound source. . It is no exaggeration to say that an excellent audience recording is the best sample that surpasses a line recording. Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA.
