Description

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN in 1985, in the midst of their heyday with the consecutive hits of “PORCUPINE” and “OCEAN RAIN”. A soundboard album that lets you experience that stage is now available. This work records the “April 25, 1985 Gothenburg performance”. It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of 1985, it was the year after the release of “OCEAN RAIN”. At that time, it was a memorable time for us, as we also came to Japan. First of all, let’s take a look at the overview and check the position of the show. 1984 ・January 12th-18th: Japan #1 (4 shows) ・March 15th-April 1st: North America #1 (16 shows) ・April 4th + 5th: France (2 shows) {“OCEAN RAIN” released on May 4th} ・May 12th-26th: Europe #1 (8 shows) ←※Liverpool footage ・August 10th-September 9th: North America #2 (21 shows) ・September 15th-October 24th: UK #1 (30 shows) ・November 24th-30th: Japan #2 (5 shows) 1985 ・January 27th: Liverpool shows ・April 12th-May 6th: Europe #2 (10 shows) ←★Here★ ・June 21st-23rd: UK #2 (2 shows) ・October 12th: Pandora’s Music Box appearances: November 22nd – December 9th: UK #3 (5 performances) This is ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN in 1984/1985. The two Japan tours were realized in 1984. The so-called “OCEAN RAIN Tour” ended there, but in 1985, sporadic mini-tours were also organized. The Gothenburg performance in this work was the fourth concert of such “Europe #2”. This work recorded at such a show is a clear and vivid FM soundboard. In today’s strict standards, the lines are a little thin to advertise as “official class!”, but it can be said that it is enough if it is the standard at that time. Above all, the edges of the performance sounds that stand out in the crystal clearness are sharp, and each sound is separated sharply. It is based on the air check of the time, but the master freshness is young, so there is almost no cloudiness or distortion due to dubbing. It is a shining soundboard with sparkling high notes that stretch straight out. The show depicted by the viriliant sound is different from the main tour in 1984. Speaking of the “OCEAN RAIN Tour”, “NEW YORK 1984” is also fresh in my memory. Let’s organize the set by comparing it here. Yamaarashi The Cutter / Gods Will Be Gods (★) / The Back of Love (★) / Heads Will Roll Other album songs Crocodiles: Rescue / All That Jazz Heaven Up Here: Heaven Up Here / A Promise Ocean Rain: The Killing Moon / My Kingdom Covers Others: In The Midnight Hour (★) / Soul Kitchen (★) / Paint It Black (★) … and so on. In fact, this tour was composed of two sets, and in the first set, 10 covers were played. In the second set, a regular concert with an original focus was held. Since this work is an FM broadcast, it was re-edited by mixing both sets. The first song and the last two songs of the program were covers, and 10 original songs were broadcast in between. Although “Gods Will Be Gods” and “The Back of Love” are also valuable, the key point is the covers. The first song was Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour”, and the last two songs were The Doors’ “Soul Kitchen” and The Stones’ “Paint It Black”. The Doors and the Stones have an irregular style that sandwiches interviews with the members, so it is not a complete form, but most of it can still be enjoyed on the sound board. This is a sound board album that allows you to enjoy the irregular tour in the heyday with clear sound. It’s a shame that it’s not a full show, but it’s a broadcast, so it can’t be helped. That said, it would be a waste to miss it. Such a new excavation of the FM master. Stereo sound board recording of “Gothenburg performance on April 25, 1985”. The clear and vivid FM soundboard has a sharp edge to the performance sound, and each sound is clearly separated. It is based on the air check of the time, but the master is young, so there is almost no cloudiness or distortion due to dubbing. You can enjoy FM broadcasts that include valuable covers such as Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour”, “Soul Kitchen” and “Paint It Black”.
