Description
DURAN DURAN in 1981 took the scene by storm with its shocking debut. Introducing a very early soundboard album that has just taken off into the world. What is recorded in this work is “Washington performance on September 22, 1981”. This is a direct sound board recording. Speaking of the live performance immediately after the debut, there is also the official excavation board “BBC IN CONCERT”, but of course this work is a separate performance. In order to get an idea of the circumstances surrounding that, let’s first look back at the schedule at the time.・January 4th: London performance ・February 27th-March 8th: UK #1 (8 performances) [“DURAN DURAN” released on June 15th] ・June 29th-July 11th: UK #1 2 (11 performances) ・September 7th – 12th: Europe #1 (4 performances) ・September 16th – October 10th: North America (16 performances) ←★Coco★ ・October 30th – December 23rd Japan: Europe #2 (25 performances) ← *BBC This is DURAN DURAN in 1981. Their debut album was a hit, reaching not only number 3 in the UK, but also number 10 in the US charts, and with that momentum, they began to invade the US. The Washington performance of this work is the 4th concert of the “North American” leg, which was the first visit to the United States. It is a live album that conveys DURAN DURAN right after landing on the new continent. This work recorded at such a show is a super close sound board recording. Even if you say “sound board” in one word, there are various individualities, but this work is completely connected directly from the mix table. The extremely tight performance sound comes out without any decoration, and the mix is rough and unprocessed. You can hear the cheers, but the balance is as if there is a commotion far away from the loud playing sounds and singing voices. If it were modern day, you would have thought it was an intercepted recording of IEMs. Although it is a too rough type to be called “official grade”, it is irresistible for solid sound board enthusiasts. There is no sense of experience at the live scene, but on the contrary, the presence of the band itself is strangely strong. The details of the vibrations of the guitar strings and drum skins jump through your eardrums and flow into your brain, giving you an extra-dimensional feeling as if your whole body is in perfect sync with the live performance. What is depicted with such a close sound is a show unique to the very early days. The set is different from “BBC IN CONCERT”, so let’s organize it while comparing. Duran Duran (7 songs) / Friends of Mine (★) / Girls on Film / Anyone Out There / Night Boat / Planet Earth / Sound of Thunder / Careless Memories Others (3 songs) / Single: Late Bar / My Own Way / Cover: Fame (★: David Bowie) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the excavation disc “BBC IN CONCERT”. …and it looks like this. All of the nine songs on the debut album were performed except for “To the Shore” and “Tel Aviv”, and instead (?) extremely rare songs such as “Late Bar”, which was the B-side of the single, and David Bowie’s cover “Fame” were performed. It is scattered. A show that can only happen in the early stages is poured directly into the brain. A strong sense of unity that makes you feel as if the youthful DURAN DURAN, who has just embarked on an invasion of the United States, comes into your head with his shoes on. This is a soundboard recording that can be said to be the “live performance version of the 1st album” filled with that pleasure. This is a must-listen live album even if you are not a fan, and the more you are a fan, the deeper the catharsis you will experience.
