Description
DURAN DURAN made their first visit to Japan in 1987 as a trio (Nick, John, and Simon) after a side project. A masterpiece original recording that conveys their performance on the big stage of Korakuen is now available. This work was recorded on “March 22, 1987”. This is a superb audience recording recorded at the final stage of Korakuen Stadium before the construction of Tokyo Dome (by the way, the last concert was not DURAN DURAN, but Michael Jackson six months later). First, let’s look back at the schedule at that time.・March 19th: Nagoya International Exhibition Center ・March 21st: Korakuen Stadium ・March 22nd: Korakuen Stadium ←★This work★ ・March 24th: Hankyu Nishinomiya Stadium A total of 4 performances. Although there were only three members, their popularity in Japan at the time was at its peak. The grand schedule included stadium-level performances in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, including two consecutive days of performances at Korakuen Stadium. This work, recorded on the second day, is a clear and robust masterpiece recording. Anyway, super clear. You won’t mistake it for a sound board based on the tone, but the close contact and fine details with no sense of distance will make you mistake it. The reason for this is probably the venue. The later Tokyo Dome could not be said to be suitable for concerts due to its bouncy echoes, but during the Korakuen Stadium era it was an open space. Therefore, there are no ceilings or walls that reflect sound, and the core and details are picked up beautifully without clouding or turbidity. Of course, it’s not always simple enough to make a great recording at an open venue, and it’s not uncommon for the sound to be blown away by the wind or become sparse because the on-site PA is too far away. However, there is no need to worry about this in this work. Unfortunately, it was raining lightly that day, but no raindrops hit the microphone, and it didn’t feel empty at all, probably because it was right next to the PA. Between songs, a female audience member complains, “I can’t hear my own voice,” but that’s why the performance sound and vocals are so overwhelming that they overpower the loud cheers of those around them, and the recording artist is a master, so even at such a loud volume, it’s still loud. No. Coupled with coincidence and ingenuity, the highest quality of sound board level has been achieved. What is depicted with such exquisite direct sound is a full show supported by the tremendous Japanese enthusiasm. Speaking of “STRANGE BEHAVIOUR TOUR”, there was also an official out-of-print video “WORKING FOR THE SKIN TRADE”, but this work is incomparably longer. Let’s compare and organize them here.・Rio: New Religion/The Chauffeur/Save A Prayer/Hungry Like The Wolf ・Seven and the Ragged Tiger: Union Of The Snake (★)/The Reflex (★) ・Notorious: Notorious/American Science (★ ) / Vertigo (Do The Demolition) / Meet El Presidente (★) / Skin Trade / A Matter Of Feeling (★) / Hold Me (★) ・Others: Is There Something I Should Know? (★) / The Wild Boys / A View To A Kill/Election Day (★: ARCADIA)/Some Like It Hot (★: THE POWER STATION) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on “WORKING FOR THE SKIN TRADE.” …and it looks like this. While “WORKING FOR THE SKIN TRADE” had only 9 songs, this work has 18 songs and over 100 minutes. You can enjoy so many famous songs that I can’t list them all. What’s more, it’s not just DURAN DURAN’s signature songs; THE POWER STATION’s “Some Like It Hot” and ARCADIA’s “Election Day” are also featured, as well as rare new songs exclusive to this tour, “American Science” and “Vertigo (Do The You can also enjoy songs such as “Demolition)”, “Meet El Presidente”, “A Matter Of Feeling”, and “Hold Me” (before “Save A Prayer”, Simon improvises “Singin’ in the (He sings “Rain”). Although such a full show alone will fill you up, this work also includes an additional extremely rare bonus. We have reprinted the messages of the three from the sono sheet “READING RECORD” at that time. The message is simple, about three and a half minutes long, but the youthful voice that talks about the new songs at the time gives off a sense of the times. Best of all, you can experience Korakuen Stadium at its finest with its robust and ultra-clear sound. That’s all there is to it. It’s a music album with excellent sound, valuable masterpieces, and performances, but even more than that, it’s the real thrill of attending a concert that is a symbol of the 80s Western music scene.
