Description
THE DOOBIE BROTHERS decided to disband in the middle of their heyday and went on a “farewell tour” in 1982. An exquisite live album that conveys the scene is now available. This work includes “August 11, 1982 Chicago Performance”. This is the best audience recording. Their disbandment tour is also included in the official work, but of course this work is a separate performance. To get an idea of what that position was like, let’s look back at the schedule at the time. “FAREWELL TOUR 1982”・July 30th – August 11th (8 performances)・August 11th: Chicago performance ←★This work★・August 12th – September 1st (16 performances)・September 4th Sunday: Universal City Performance ←※Official ・September 5th + 8th (2 performances) ・September 10th + 11th: Berkeley 2 performances ←※Official This is THE DOOBIE BROTHERS in 1982. Officially, there is a traditional live album “FAREWELL TOUR” and video “LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATER 1982”, but the Chicago performance of this work is much earlier than that. This was the 9th concert of the 30-performance “Farewell Tour.” This work, which records such a show, has an extremely superb sound that will blow you away. Some of you may have noticed the keywords “1982” and “Chicago.” Yes, this is the latest work in the much-talked-about “COVID-19 QUARANTINE RELEASE!” series (recently it seems to be titled “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”). If you’ve been watching the updates over the past few weeks, I’m sure you’ve already made up your mind, but this series is about a maniac releasing his treasured masters all at once in order to overcome the restrictions on going out due to the new coronavirus. It is amazing that most of them are recorded for the first time, but what is even more impressive is the quality itself. Anyway, super tight and super direct. The extremely thick core reaches your ears without any sense of distance, and the ultra-vivid details are more vivid than poor broadcast sound sources. Even when the performances by the large eight-piece band overlap, they do not mix together, the bass and drums overflow with a rich vibe-like groove, and the saxophone shines with an aristocratic luster. What’s more, even though it’s in such close contact, it has an extraordinary sense of stability and beautiful luster that doesn’t shake at all. If you have experienced even one of the masterpieces so far, you will be able to feel how amazing it is, but this work stands out among them. There is a lively applause between songs, so it must be an audience recording, but other than that, there is nothing to remind you that it is a guest record. The 80’s audience… no, it’s a superb sound that overturns the common sense of spatial recording regardless of the era. What is depicted with such a sound is a full show of the “Farewell Tour” where the glorious career shines, although it is different from “FAREWELL TOUR” and “LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATER 1982”. Here, let’s organize it while comparing it with “LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATER 1982”. Early Classics (12 songs) ・TOULOUSE STREET: Listen to the Music/Rockin’ Down the Highway/Don’t Start Me Talkin’ (★)/Jesus Is Just Alright ・THE CAPTAIN AND ME: Long Train Runnin’/South City Midnight Lady (★) / China Grove / Without You (★) · WHAT WERE ONCE VICES ARE NOW HABITS: Black Water · STAMPEDE: Sweet Maxine / Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While) / Slat Key Soquel Rag McDonald’s era ( 14 songs)・TAKIN’ IT TO THE STREETS:Takin’ It to the Streets・LIVIN’ ON THE FAULT LINE:You Belong to Me/Little Darling (I Need You)/Echoes of Love(★)・MINUTE BY MINUTE:Dependin ‘ on You / Minute by Minute / Steamer Lane Breakdown (★) / What a Fool Believes・ONE STEP CLOSER: One Step Closer / Real Love / No Stoppin’ Us Now (★) / Keep This Train A-Rollin’ (★)・Others: I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near) (★) / Out on the Streets *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the official version of “LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATER 1982.” …and it looks like this. Full of early numbers revived with AOR arrangements as well as mid-to-late hit songs. In particular, “Without You,” “No Stoppin’ Us Now,” “Keep This Train A-Rollin’,” and Patrick Simmons’ solo song “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near)” are from the traditional album “FAREWELL TOUR.” It’s a delicious repertoire that you can’t listen to together. Another point is the intense sense of realism. “CHICAGOFEST”, which is the location of this work, is an annual music festival held at Navy Pier in Chicago. The mood was different from that of a so-called hall concert, and the beat and applause were extremely open. The audience seemed to be wider than the genuine fans, and the atmosphere was very much like a summer festival. Moreover, it is a rare masterpiece recording that allows you to enjoy the open feeling to your heart’s content while maintaining the best and thickest sound rather than a crowd. Superb quality and a realistic summer experience that is shocking the world. Furthermore, the set list is different from “FAREWELL TOUR” and “LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATER 1982”… It is a masterpiece of “Farewell Tour” that is too delicious in every point. An unavoidable work historically, documentaryly, and musically. Navy Pier, Chicago, IL, USA 11th August 1982 ULTIMATE SOUND Disc 1(56:21) 1. Listen to the Music 2. Sweet Maxine 3.
