Description

A superb live album recording the legendary first visit to Japan is now available. This is a new excavation of an original cassette by the famous “Kinney”. The cassette contained the “November 30, 1985: Shibuya Public Hall” performance. This is an act of the first visit to Japan that was realized almost at the same time as the release of the masterpiece “UNDER LOCK AND KEY”. First of all, let’s check the show’s position from the memorable tour dates. [“UNDER LOCK AND KEY” released in the US on November 22nd]・November 30th: Shibuya Public Hall [This work]・December 1st: Shibuya Public Hall (daytime)・December 1st: Shibuya Public Hall (nighttime) December 3rd: Osaka Festival Hall December 5th: Nagoya City Public Hall [“UNDER LOCK AND KEY” to be released in Japan on December 10th] A total of 5 performances. At that time, “UNDER LOCK AND KEY” was released in Japan, but it was released in Japan at the last minute. The main part of the tour, North America, began the following year in January 1986, and the Japan performance was a warm-up before that. Among them, this work is Lee’s first day. It was the first visit to Japan, and it was also the first day of the “UNDER LOCK AND KEY TOUR” worldwide. [Newly discovered Kinney cassette] This work records the night when Japan and DOKKEN met for the first time, and its quality is also excellent. This Kinney recording has been released for a long time and was a famous recording known as the masterpiece LP bootleg “UNCHAINED 1985”. Of course, this work is not based on that LP, but the cassette that became its source. However, only the main set was discovered this time. The encore part (Breaking The Chains, guitar solo, Paris Is Burning), which was recorded on a separate cassette, has been reprinted from the LP “UNCHAINED 1985”. The sound revived with the original cassette is overwhelmingly vivid. Although it is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, the core that feels plenty of weight jumps straight in, and the delicate details are also fresh. Of course there are fine vocals and guitars, but what is shocking is the bass. Jeff Pilson’s rugged bass is strangely clear. It’s not so much that you can just “understand the lines”, but that you can feel the attack of each note as if it were a “gulp”. Furthermore, the enthusiasm that swirled around the venue for their first visit to Japan was amazing. Although the ferocious excitement feels real, the balance makes it feel far beyond the extremely thick performance. As soon as George Lynch’s razor solo comes out, a huge wave-like swell rises from far away, and riding on that wave, the performance heats up… It’s intensely hot, with even the subtleties of the thick chorus work being felt. The Kinney sound that can only be called magic is in full swing. The splendor of that recording was felt in the legendary LP “UNCHAINED 1985”, but this work is even better. Due to the custom at the time, the MC with place names was cut out on the LP, but you can hear it perfectly in this work. Of course, that is just proof of the original cassette. What’s truly amazing is the sound itself. Unlike “UNCHAINED 1985,” which was mostly monophonic, this work has a vivid stereo feel that is beautifully separated. [First meeting show full of premieres and extremely rare songs] What is more important than such quality is the show itself, which was the “first meeting with Japan”. The set is a concentrated reduction of “TOOTH AND NAIL” + “UNDER LOCK AND KEY”. As mentioned above, the encore is two classic songs from “BREAKING THE CHAINS”, but the others are a thorough repertoire of two great albums. In particular, the number “UNDER LOCK AND KEY”, which Japanese people heard for the first time on this occasion, was overwhelming, and they performed all the songs except “Slippin’ Away” and “Don’t Lie to Me.” In between, 6 out of 10 songs from “TOOTH AND NAIL” are included. Moreover, this day is the first day of the world tour. “Will The Sun Rise” had been played since 1984, but all the other new songs were premiered. “In My Dreams”, “The Hunter” and “It’s Not Love”, which are still very popular, are also super fresh performances performed in public for the first time. The best songs are “Jaded Heart” and “Til The Livin’ End” which also includes a drum solo. Neither song was played on the following year’s home tour, making it an extremely rare song that is only recorded on this first visit to Japan. You can enjoy it with the exquisite Kinney sound. This album is the first time we met DOKKEN, which is special to us Japanese people, but it is also a unique cultural heritage in the entire world. A valuable Kinney cassette recording the legendary first visit to Japan. Not only the magical sound, but also the excitement of the first stage and the precious premiere. And it is a masterpiece full of extremely rare numbers. The highest peak of Japan’s world-class recordings.
