Description
The original version of “BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS” which has not yet been officially released on CD. Such a fantastic debut work and an outstanding multi-camera professional shot of the early live are now available on CD + DVD. Speaking of “BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS”, it goes without saying that it is DOKKEN’s first album. This is an official work that is still in circulation today. However, the original release version was completely different from the current version. The current version is a remix version released by American major ELEKTRA in 1983, but the original was released by French label CARRERE in 1981. Although all 10 songs are the same, the mix, sound, track list, and members are slightly different. This work reprints such “original version BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS” in the highest quality ever, and also includes the super best professional shot live that has appeared in recent years. It is a major deciding board of early DOKKEN, in which Fohan Kruchet was also enrolled. Now, let’s introduce each disc individually. [CD version: 1981 original version BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS (2 types)] ●West German version “2934 139” The main CD version of this work is the original CARRERE version of “BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS”. This version has been confirmed to be released in the UK, France, West Germany, and Greece, and this work includes two versions: a West German version and a French version. The jacket of this work has the name “DON DOKKEN” instead of “DOKKEN”, but this is the artwork of this West German version. Included at the beginning is the West German version “2934 139”, which is considered to be of the highest quality. A mint record owned by a core collector was obtained and digitized using high-end equipment. The sound is perfect. The glossy sound that runs through the entire volume is hard to believe that it was made from an LP, and the freshness and stability are outstanding. Actually, you can listen to the original version on a certain video site, but the sound is incomparable. The clarity with crisp detail, the rich three-dimensional feel, and the freshness that even the slightest reverberations are preserved…the quality of each note is completely different. The original version drawn with that quality is a different world from the current version. First of all, there are two songs that I’m not familiar with just by looking at the list. “Paris” is the same song as the familiar “Paris Is Burning,” but unlike the current live version, it is a complete studio recording. It’s a tight version that starts with the drums without that guitar solo in the intro. What’s even more noteworthy is the rare song “We’re Illegal,” which has never been released on CD. This song is basically the original song of “Live to Rock (Rock to Live)” included in the current edition, and not only the lyrics are different, but it is also a duet between Don Dokken and Foan Kruche. It was probably an adaptation of Foan’s vocal song for the world debut with Jeff Pilson, but not only the chorus that repeats “We’re illegal, takin’ control you!!” but also the entire lyrics have been rewritten. The impression is completely different. Also, Foan is not the only member who is different. On the current version, Foan is credited as the bass player, but on this album, ACCEPT’s Peter Baltes and Foan’s older brother Tom Krusche also participate (although it is not confirmed, there are three songs, “Paris” and “Young Girls”). It is also said that Bobby Blotzer played the hit on “Stick To Your Guns”). This alone is quite different, but what’s even more striking is the mix. The current edition has a dynamic sound with a major feel as expected from the major ELEKTRA, but instead it has a harsh bathroom sound with the delay that was popular at the time. On the other hand, this work has a tight band sound. Of course, this work also includes effect processing, but it is only a modest one, and you can feel the sound of the band’s performance all over the place. It sounds like a studio live. ●The second half of the French version of “67865” CD includes another “original version of BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS”. “67865” was pressed in France, the home country of the CARRERE label (by the way, the jacket of the French edition has a logo very similar to the current edition). The recording take/mix is the same, but the mastering is different and the sound is different. Among core enthusiasts, the West German version “2934 139″ recorded in the first half is considered to be the best, but this one is also quite tasty. Although the sound is not as clear as the West German version, it has an echo feeling, and the chorus feels thicker. Of course, this is also the highest version uniquely digitized from mint quality LP. The theme of this work is “original masterpieces”, so the label’s home country version is valuable as a material. [DVD version: Complete version of 1982 BEAT-CLUB pro shot] The alternative video version is a multi-camera pro shot from the era when “Original version BREAKING THE CHAINS” was released. This is the famous West German program “BEAT-CLUB” recorded on “January 14, 1982 Bremen”. It has long been famous as a pro shot that shows the Foan era (up until now it has been taken as “January 4th”), but this work is an upgrade master that has appeared in recent years, and is a shot of the BEAT-CLUB itself. This is the unedited, complete version before broadcast, discovered by. In fact, the quality of this work is ultimate. After all, BEAT-CLUB’s own new discovery. For that reason, there should be no dubbing marks, and the master, which has probably been sitting in a warehouse for many years, has no playback deterioration at all. About 10 years ago, the high-resolution version of Air Check was talked about as “official grade!”, but even that is not a problem at all. The visual beauty is overwhelming even to eyes accustomed to modern digital standards. It is not the standard at that time, but the completely official quality of modern standards. What’s more, the content is intense, with unreleased scenes right from the opening. The existing group that was the air check of the broadcast started from the middle of “Paris Is Burning”, but this work is recorded from the intro. On the contrary, the venue before the performance is also contained for four and a half minutes. Furthermore, there were no song titles or member subtitles that were covered during the broadcast, and the recording continued for about two minutes after the performance ended. It is truly unedited and raw. Even more amazing than that, of course, are the performance scenes, and the highlights are, of course, the songs that weren’t aired: “I Can’t See You” and “In The Middle!” The repertoire of “BREAKING THE CHAINS” drastically decreased after the major debut, but these two songs in particular are extremely rare numbers that have not been recorded until now. Moreover, with the addition of these two songs, all the songs of “BREAKING THE CHAINS” were performed. Of course, it’s not “Live to Rock (Rock to Live),” but “We’re Illegal,” and he duets with Huan on stage. In addition, the rare “Red Book”, Foan’s bass solo, and George Lynch’s guitar solo are also perfect. It is a “BREAKING THE CHAINS+α that you can see with your eyes”. Furthermore, Don Dokken, who plays guitar with his hands, is also refreshing. Moreover, the sound of the guitar is big, and it is mixed with a better balance than George. Although it is a bit strange from the current feeling, there is no way for the broadcast station to know about the dynamics within the band just after the debut, and thanks to that, you can enjoy Don’s skills on the official super-superb sound board. Two original editions of the masterpiece “BREAKIN’ THE CHAINS” and a completely upgraded version of the classic pro shot. This is truly the definitive early DOKKEN album. The ultimate 2-disc set where you can enjoy the highest quality ever recorded by ELEKTRA before they took to the world.
