Description
Do you know Doc Watson? . . It’s a cool item. However, it is a very good item. Doc Watson is a blind American folk, country, and bluegrass singer who is also a master of acoustic guitar cross-picking. With just one guitar, everything from elaborate bass lines to solo phrases can be heard all at the same time. This concert is a trio consisting of two guitars and bass without drums. The father-son co-starring with Doc’s son Merle Watson, who has worked together in the past, is a perfect fit. Marle is also an expert on the guitar and dobro, as good as his father, and the best part about listening to the father-son guitar collaboration is the sound quality with excellent resolution, with Marle on the left and Marle on the right on the stereo soundboard. This trio is an outstanding combination no matter what they play, from trad to country blues, and the dazzling guitar solos that dance in response to Doc’s call of “Marle” are exquisite. And the guitar played by Satsuki and her son in the instrumental is a masterpiece. This is definitely a must-have item for those who like early Bob Dylan, the Byrds with Clarence White, Richard Thompson, and Fairport Convention. The master was long enough to fit on one CD due to tuning etc. between songs, but we carefully edited the gaps between songs and put it on one CD (of course, the songs are uncut). Unfortunately, a few years after this concert, Marle suddenly passed away in an accident, so Doc & Marle’s father-son collaboration is a valuable sound source.
