Description
DIRE STRAITS in their debut days, who caught fire with the single “Sultans of Swing” and quickly rose to become the darlings of the era. The pre-FM reel of the symbolic soundboard has been unexpectedly unearthed! The master sound, which was brought to the world for the first time through a unique route, has been released urgently! This work is engraved with the “Philadelphia performance on March 6, 1979”. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of early DIRE STRAITS, in addition to the traditional work “LIVE AT THE BBC”, the highlight of the official box “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE” is still fresh in my memory, but this work is from a different time than both of them. In order to imagine the situation around there, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time. January 10th – July 22nd, 1978: UK (34 performances) ← * Official BBC 78 “DIRE RAINBOW 79 This is the 1978/1979 DIRE STRAITS. “LIVE AT THE BBC” was the stage before the release of the debut album, and “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE” was after the release of the second album. In contrast, the Philadelphia performance of this work is in between. It was the eighth performance of “North America # 1”, which was waiting for the release of “COMMUNIQUE” while it was being completed. This show has become a classic among classics since it was broadcast on “WNEW-FM”. This work is also a familiar broadcast sound board, but the quality is completely unexperienced! It is a pre-broadcast master unearthed by our own route, but it is not even the original LP. It is a master reel that goes back to the original! Moreover, the upgrade is amazing. It covers both quality and quantity, but first of all, it is four and a half minutes longer than the previously best “PHILADELPHIA 1979 FM BROADCAST” (the extended part is mainly MC, and the number of songs itself is the same). That alone is surprising, but what’s more, the sound quality is even better. This is already something completely different. Even though it has long been said to be “official class,” the fineness of detail, the beauty of the sound, and the three-dimensional effect have been greatly improved. To visualize this improvement, imagine a pile of clear files. Each clear file is a guitar or a vocal. The three-dimensional effect of the conventional master was that when you stack them and look at them from above, the entire ensemble is assembled. The stereo panning felt like one of the flat files was shifted left and right, and the rhythm section at the base was blurred because it was through multiple files. On the other hand, if you were to compare the image of the three-dimensional effect of this work, it would be “cat’s cradle.” Each phrase and beat is a three-dimensional thread that goes back and forth in three dimensions. Because it is “cat’s cradle,” even if the ensemble is intricately entangled, it does not become muddy or mixed. I went a little too far with the image. To put it more simply, the sound of this work is richer than the official “LIVE AT THE BBC” and is equal to or better than the much-talked-about “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE”. It is a true master sound that adds an analog-like heavy feel to that official sound. The legendary broadcast that has been called the “live performance debut” has been reborn with such a special official sound. It is a different selection from both “LIVE AT THE BBC” and “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE”, so let’s organize it by comparing them. Sad Sultans (8 songs) Down To The Waterline / Six Blade Knife / Water Of Love (*) / In The Gallery (★) / Lions / Sultans Of Swing / Wild West End / Southbound Again (★) Others (2 songs) What’s the Matter Baby? / Eastbound Train (★*) *Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official “LIVE AT THE BBC”, and “*” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE”. …And so it is. All songs from the debut album except “Setting Me Up” are performed, and “What’s the Matter Baby?” and the single B-side song “Eastbound Train” are scattered throughout. “What’s the Matter Baby?” is a rare co-written song with David Knopfler, and is also the original song for “Lady Writer”. The youthful enthusiasm that spells out such a set is dazzling, and the heat that has just begun the invasion of the United States is amazing. Even the representative song “Sultans Of Swing” feels fresh now with its compact 6-minute performance that conforms to the album. Not only does it connect the official “LIVE AT THE BBC” and “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE”, but it is also a great masterpiece that can be called the “live performance version 1st album” in terms of performance, set, and sound. This is an absolute album that has made a big upgrade of the legendary FM broadcast that has long symbolized the debut era. Super-excellent stereo soundboard recording of the “Philadelphia performance on March 6, 1979”. A pre-FM master reel newly excavated by a unique route, this is a major upgrade that far surpasses the conventional version. Not only is it about 4 and a half minutes longer, but the sound is also amazing, exceeding the official “LIVE AT THE BBC” and “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW THEATRE”. In addition to the early song rush that can be called the “live performance version 1st album”, an absolute edition that exceeds the official version is born, where you can enjoy the extremely rare “Eastbound Train”. The world’s first broadcast station-owned reel master! Original excavated sound source leaked by related parties. Ultra-high quality SBD that is three ranks higher than the broadcast version and previous releases!
