Description

The Dallas, Texas performance on October 7, 1990, which was the last live performance of the “first half of DIO” that was active for more than seven years from 1983, is now available as a valuable stereo line sound source. DIO’s “LOCK UP THE WOLVES” North American tour, which started with a performance in Poughkeepsie, New York on August 1, 1990, continued with energetic live performances in various parts of the United States for two months. Since the “DREAM EVIL” tour in 1987, DIO’s live performances have not been as large or powerful as they once were, but at this point they still performed at venues with a capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 people, and on some days they sold out venues with a capacity of 8,000 people. This work records the Bronco Bowl performance in Dallas, Texas, which is the final performance of the tour that consisted of 45 performances over the course of about two months, with a soundboard sound source with high quality in terms of clarity, balance, and separation. The line sound source of this day appeared quite some time ago under the title “THE LAST IN DALLAS”, but it was a noisy sound with noticeable hiss and scratch noises. It was a sound source that many fans felt very disappointed that it was difficult to listen to the end of this rare live performance, even for some people. In order to allow many people to enjoy this memorable live performance, this work uses the highest level master currently available, and further corrects and improves the sound quality as much as possible in the careful remastering work. Due to the circumstances of the original material, the recording time is about half of the set list at that time, which is the same as the previous release, but the sound quality is reproduced with a sound that anyone can listen to and be convinced that it is high-quality. This is the best sound quality board ever, without a doubt, where all fans can listen carefully to this live performance, which is indispensable for knowing DIO history! The sound source starts with the opening S.E. used only in this ’90 tour, and opens with “Lock Up The Wolves”, which is the middle to latter half of the set at that time. As mentioned in the commentary on “HOWLING WOLF” to be released this week, the second half of the show, starting with the title song of this album, is built on a calculation of the brilliant arrangement and development of the songs, and even with a 50-minute performance time, you can enjoy enough excitement. The flow of this opening S.E. and the eccentric “Lock Up The Wolves” also fits in very naturally, as if it was a combination from the beginning. In “Don’t Talk To Strangers”, which receives a heavy opening, the listener who was attracted by the opening will be firmly taken into the world of DIO (you can also not miss the singing voice of someone other than Ronnie, which can be heard around 4:00 in the same song). You can listen to the line sound source of the ’90 tour in “CERBERUS RULES” included as a bonus of “HOWLING WOLF”, but this sound source has a mix with a more official feeling than that, and the play of each member separated in stereo with clear sound guarantees a great listening response. The highlight of the first half is “Hey Angel,” which perfectly expresses the strengths of the ’90 lineup. The sound image of Rowan Robertson’s guitar is captured with excellent three-dimensionality and texture, and the solid yet strong ensemble makes it no exaggeration to say that this is the best take of the song. The dramatic suite of “The Last In Line” and “Heaven And Hell” is a masterpiece in which Ronnie’s singing is the culmination of the ’90 tour, and the climax where the members’ playing and Ronnie’s singing are concentrated and sublimated is the best no matter how many times you listen to it. The medley of “Egypt (The Chains are On)” and “Holy Diver,” in which Jens’ keyboard expands a worldview different from that of his predecessor Claude Schnell, is also exquisite, and together with the encore “We Rock,” it emits a positive energy that makes it hard to believe that “this is DIO’s last performance in ’90.” The end of the “LOCK UP THE WOLVES” tour on this day also meant the end of an era. In early 1991, Ronnie accepted Geezer’s invitation to return to BLACK SABBATH, and the band broke up, and DIO went into silence for three years. DIO resumed activities again in 1993, but Ronnie never performed with Rowan, Jens, or Teddy again. Considering the ability of this band, it is a shame that they parted ways after only one year and one tour! It is a privilege of a collector’s item to be able to enjoy “only here songs” with “members only from one tour” who do not have official live recordings. If you listen to this work, which is the last show in addition to “HOWLING WOLF” and “CERBERUS RULES” released at the same time, you will have almost a perfect record of DIO’s 1990 live. This week’s “LOCK UP THE WOLVES” live master guide, which focuses on one point, is a must-listen for all Ronnie fans! Live at Bronco Bowl, Dallas, Texas, USA 7th October 1990 STEREO SBD(UPGRADE) 1.
