Description

“SUPER ROCK ’85 IN JAPAN: TV Broadcast Edition”, which includes footage from “Super Rock ’85”, is back! You can enjoy the festival, which featured big names such as DIO and FOREIGNER and left a strong impression on fans’ memories, with high-quality multi-camera professional shots! “Super Rock” was a big success when it was held last year, and it has been decided that it will be held again next year with the aim of making it a regular event. In 1985, the venue in Kanto was moved to a special stage in Odaiba, Tokyo Bay, and each band performed passionately from the night of August 10th to the morning of August 11th. The artists who performed at the event included STING, FOREIGNER, ROUGH CUTT, MAMA’S BOYS, and DIO, who was visiting Japan for the first time as a band, making for a more diverse lineup than last year. In this work, the stages of DIO, ROUGH CUTT, MAMA’S BOYS, and FOREIGNER are recorded in high quality (although it is a digest of less than 40 minutes) based on the TV broadcast material at the time. This video is a take that was broadcast as part of a summer charity program. As an air check master, both image quality and sound are good enough. At the beginning, a female reporter appears after a nostalgic commercial. The report, “I’m now in front of the special stage at Odaiba Sports Plaza facing Tokyo Bay!” and the view of the venue behind it, would have captivated even the fans of the time. As it is a collaboration with a charity program, some parts are not directly related to the festival, but it is also a nostalgic scene from the mid-1980s. DIO will appear as the top batter! Ronnie has come to Japan many times with RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH, but surprisingly this is DIO’s first visit to Japan. When Vivian Campbell was enrolled, this was the only festival appearance, and it is a very important live in the band’s history. The video is almost the same as the official video released later, both in angle and editing, but the audio mix is different and the fake cheers are not superimposed. In addition to “King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” which was the opening of the live show, “The Last In Line” which includes “Holy Diver”, the song selection also covers representative ones from three works from Vivian’s era. Not only Ronnie’s enthusiastic performance, but also the bass captured loudly is impressive. The interview with Ronnie inserted in the middle is extremely valuable. The Japanese captions that appear in various places can only be seen here. Next up is a cover of Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart” from the ROUGH CUTT stage. Paul Shortino’s vocals are as expected, and the arrangement sounds very ’80s, which is very interesting when I look back on it now. The third person to appear was the stage view of MAMA’S BOYS (they appeared at dawn). I’m playing “Power And Passion” from the new work at that time. The cohesive stage that received high praise at the time can be clearly seen here as well. The last one is FOREIGNER at the time when “AGENT PROVOCATEUR” was a big hit. You can enjoy three songs, starting with “Long Long Way From Home”, the signature song “Waiting For A Girl Like You”, and the new song “Reaction To Action” from the new album mentioned above. The interview with Mick Jones is also a must-see for fans. This festival was memorable in many ways for the fans who experienced it in real time at the venue, as access to the venue and facilities were not as good as in previous years, and we were also hit by bad weather. In this work, in addition to the atmosphere of the venue, the band’s charming performance, and the ’80s-like mood seem to ooze out from the screen, giving fans of the time the ultimate feeling of nostalgia. Of course, this is a must-see video for young fans who have not experienced or are unaware of this festival. This work, which was made possible because it was a gift title, can be said to be an indispensable book for understanding the ’80s metal scene in Japan!
