Description
After Craig Goldie joined the band, the ’86 tour took place in Europe and the UK from April to May. Following three consecutive performances at Hammersmith Odeon, the tour came to a close with two performances in Dublin, Ireland. DIO then embarked on the second leg of their “SACRED HEART” tour in the US on June 6, 1986. The tour for this album was held on a large scale from August to December when Vivienne was still in the band in 1985, but this second leg also served as Craig’s debut in the US, and the band’s enthusiasm was tremendous. As proof of this, on June 20th, they performed a show at Madison Square Garden in New York, attracting 13,000 people, and played energetic live shows at venues on a scale comparable to the previous year. This work captures the live performance at the Flint, Michigan “IMA Sports Arena”, the 13th performance of this fulfilling tour, with excellent audience shots for 80 minutes. Although it was shot from the back of the venue, the screen accurately captures the stage from the front, making it an excellent shot that clearly shows the band members such as Ronnie and Craig playing on stage. Since it is a video from 25 years ago, it is a little dark and not as clear as recent digital images, but the outlines of the players are still clear, and in the zoomed-in scenes you can even see their expressions. The intro, in which a giant dragon appears illuminated by green and red lights on the temple set that made an impact on many audiences at the Japan tour, is a highlight that can only be seen in the video. Vinny Appice’s intense drumming illuminated by the spotlight and the explosive start of “King of Rock and Roll” from the pyro explosion will surprise fans who only know the ’86 live from the sound source! The first half of the show, “Like the Beat of a Heart” and “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, is the same as the European tour, but the main feature of this American tour is that “Time to Burn” is set in place of “Hungry for Heaven”. The pop taste is similar to “Hungry For Heaven”, but this is the first number that Craig was involved in composing for DIO, so he plays more lively on stage. The medley from “The Last In Line” includes “Holy Diver” using laser beams, and “Heaven And Hell” where the stage equipment of lighting and fire skillfully draws the contrast of light and dark, making you stare at the large-scale stage. “Sacred Heart”, which makes full use of video from the opening, is definitely the highlight. Ronnie’s action of inciting the audience at will is also at its climax, and the performance that appeals to the world view of the song with not only singing but also the whole body is overwhelming. The stage effects using gunpowder and flames, which are difficult to do in Japan, are also a must-see. When Ronnie shouts “Attack !!”, the dragon roars and spits smoke and fire (Ronnie himself shouted it at Super Rock 85), and Ronnie swings a shining sword and moves all over the stage. The 5,000 people who sold out the venue that day responded with enthusiastic reactions to Ronnie’s intense power! The ’86 live performance with Craig Goldy’s lineup can be seen on “SACRED HEART “THE VIDEO””, which was recorded at the Philadelphia Spectrum on June 17th, but when it comes to immersive shots from the audience, there are not many that can match this film. The “SACRED HEART” tour, which has many highlights as a show as well as music, is best enjoyed on video! It’s 80 minutes that fans must see!
