Description

A live album of Phil Collen’s debut gig is now available! This work was recorded at the “Marquee Club on February 9, 1983”, three weeks after the release of “PYROMANIA”, the first album after joining the Philharmonic. The marquee where the scene took place is a legendary club in London. Even now, 35 years after their debut, DEF LEPPARD still fills large venues, but on this day, there were fewer than 400 people in the venue. The sound of this work, which recorded the scene with an audience, is just hot! The close contact of the narrow club is amazing and frighteningly direct. It’s not like you can hear all the instruments clearly…it’s like all the instruments are hitting you. It’s a live album that will be played right in front of your eyes, making you sweat droplets. Moreover, the original cassette provided by the recorder is used, and the freshness is wonderful, giving off a vividness that feels as if it was recorded yesterday. This master was released on the LANGLEY label about 15 years ago, but this time it has been re-digitized from the original cassette using the latest technology. DEF LEPPARD’s youthful show drawn with such a sound is also fresh. After “Switch 625”, just introducing “New guitarist, Phil Collen!” makes me shudder, but even more fresh is the live performance itself. While proudly showing off the potential of the band that created this breakthrough masterpiece, this is transformed into momentum rather than leeway. Joe Elliott is barking and the twins, Phil and Steve Clark, are choking with NWOBHM body odor. While radiating such enthusiasm, he is now stepping on the accelerator to climb the ladder of success. All of this is crammed into a small space. Although they released the masterpiece “PYROMANIA”, which was later awarded the Diamond Disc (= Platinum x 10), the setlist is mainly “HIGH ‘N’ DRY” because it has not yet become popular. In fact, they performed 6 out of 10 songs, with a balance of 4 each of “ON THROUGH THE NIGHT” and “PYROMANIA.” The enthusiasm of the audience is also contained, but unlike the later hugely successful bands, it is not a live performance where everyone sings in chorus. Right now, the state of the band being pushed up is being photographed in a very realistic way. Even more special is the last song, “Travellin’ Band.” This is a CCR cover that was often played until the 80’s, but on this day Brian “Robo” Robertson jumped in. At the time, Robo was enrolled in MOTORHEAD and was in London for the production of “ANOTHER PERFECT DAY”. “ANOTHER PERFECT DAY” was later criticized by the media as “Robo has no choice but to kill”, but at that time it had not even been created yet, and Robo was also a former THIN LIZZY big name. The audience at the marquee was delighted! The film ends with a feeling of excitement that quickly raises the room temperature of the hot club. This is a precious Phil Collen’s debut show, and the small club is filled with the youthful energy of the band. Not only DEF LEPPARD fans, but NWOBHM enthusiasts should listen to this passion. This is a live performance that attempts to break through the thin skin of success that many of their contemporaries have failed to achieve, and a masterpiece recording that is filled with the momentum of embarking on a world-class tour. A wild, tough, sweaty, dusty marquee club. The smell of London that was unique to that era was breathed out from the on-site cassette that had inhaled plenty of that air. This weekend, this game will turn your room into a marquee club. Live at Marquee Club, London, UK 9th February 1983 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND (74:50) 1. Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) 2.
