Description
Live in Japan at its peak is here! If “super” is attached to the heyday, “HYSTERIA TOUR 1987-1988” is the only one. After all, “HYSTERIA” is a monster hit album that is said to have sold 20 million to 25 million copies worldwide to date. This work is a live album packed with 100% live audience recordings of DEF LEPPARD, who visited Japan while sweeping the world. First, let’s take a look at the overview of the 1988 Japan tour that produced this work.・May 17th: Yoyogi National Stadium First Gymnasium ・May 19th: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium [This work] ・May 21st: Osaka Festival Hall ・May 22nd: Osaka Festival Hall ・May 24th: Nagoya City Public Hall. In this way, the 1988 Japan tour included a total of 5 performances. “HYSTERIA TOUR” started in June 1987, toured around the world for about a year, and finally returned to Japan. Among them, this work was recorded at the second performance, “May 19, 1988 Yokohama performance.” That said, it was not a famous sound source at that time. In 2003, 15 years after the live performance, it was suddenly discovered as “MODERN HYSTERY” by the LANGLEY label. The sound, which has been digitized directly from the original cassette that breathes in plenty of the atmosphere of the scene, is extremely fresh. Even though it was recorded in a space at the Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium, the sound was so beautiful that the musical tones were delivered directly without being interfered with by audience noise, and was even praised as “the best performance in Japan!” In this work, the master cassette has been re-digitized using the latest technology. It is a live album with bright musical sounds that shine even more at a modern level. The live show that unfolds with that sound is truly the definitive DEF LEPPARD show. Their discography is highlighted by two diamond discs, “PYROMANIA” and “HYSTERIA”, and the main songs are 7 songs each from both works. Of course, these two works are still the center of the set, but it was only at that time that they were so thoroughly concentrated. Moreover, it is a show where the five people who created the two works hit the same potential as they were back then. Furthermore, the composition includes two songs from “HIGH ‘N’ DRY”, “Bringin’ On The Heartbreak” and “Let It Go”, and a rock’n’roll medley as accents. It’s a live show that condenses only the delicious parts. In fact, the hit songs and signature songs that were released one after another, filled with the artist power of the golden era, were amazing… No, they weren’t yet “representative songs” at that time. Through repeated live performances like this one, it rose up the charts and became a “representative song.” A performance that breathes even more life into an already completed masterpiece, allowing it to grow to the point where it leaves its name in history. Even though the songs have continued to be played for 27 years after this, they are full of the dynamic feeling that only they could do at that time. At the end of this work, there is also a loud end-of-show announcement on the “Switch 625″ tape. The announcements announcing AEROSMITH’s additional performance, GUNS N’ ROSES’ first visit to Japan, and WARREN ZEVON’s live show are filled with a strong sense of the times. WHITESNAKE led by Vivian Campbell is especially strong. The announcement that will be held at the same Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium (June 16th) one month after the release of this work may bring back memories of going to both shows. They held a joint tour in 2008, and this year they also visited Japan for a one-week near-miss. Furthermore, a rejoint is planned for the home tour in December of this year. The two, who took completely different paths but still intersect, were enjoying their golden years at the same time. And we too were breathing in that air. This is a book that brings back that experience to reality. The film concludes with a conversation from the audience, saying things like “I thought I was going to die!” “It was so good, it was the best… today!!” “My ears are still not working properly” “Let’s run away!” This is a real album that brings that excitement to life and makes you feel it erupt from deep within your chest. For those who lived through that era, and for those who can’t forget the regret they missed out on. We present to you this wonderful experience.
