Description
A CD reprint series of “Mobile Fidelity” which has attracted a lot of attention. The latest bullet has been decided to be released. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL), a manufacturer specializing in analog masters, is a trusted brand that is highly supported by audio enthusiasts around the world. With all of his passion, the sound craftsman has digitized many great albums from master tapes. Among such series, this work includes DEF LEPPARD’s masterpiece “Hysteria”. [Mobile Fidelity prioritizes master tape sound] In the 1990s, when the conversion of analog works to CD was at its peak, many high-quality CDs appeared, but MFSL was in a class of its own. Other high-quality CDs are based on the idea of “suppressing digital deterioration” by using new technology to reduce the discomfort of compression, and by reducing reading errors in the material. On the other hand, MFSL’s policy is to “faithfully reproduce the sound engraved on the master tape and not add anything unnecessary.” We place the utmost importance on the “analog recorded sound itself,” including developing our own “half-speed mastering” technology that also focuses on the stage of extracting sound from magnetic tape. Since 1987, MFSL has borrowed original master tapes from record companies and meticulously digitized many masterpieces one by one. We have released the “Ultradisc” series, which transfers the sound of master tapes to CDs. Currently, it has expanded into the SACD and LP fields, but the point is that this work was released on CD in the first half of the 1990s. Magnetic tape masters are susceptible to deterioration over time, and the more time passes, the more the original sound is lost. There are cases where the tape becomes distorted or stuck, but even if it is stored precisely, it cannot prevent the tape from losing its magnetism. Nowadays, LPs recorded with physical grooves sound better than the master tapes themselves…and so on. In that respect as well, the “Ultradisc” series was a great achievement. It began in the 1980s when CDs were popular, and the sound of master tapes was digitized even before the advent of new CD technology that claimed high sound quality. [“Hysteria” is an exquisite piece with multiple recordings and the vibe of the 80’s sound down to the finest details] This work, “Hysteria”, conveys the master sound “six years after recording”. The beauty of it is its freshness. This work was released in the 1990s when MFSL was releasing masterpiece remasters one after another, but the original was released in 1987. Therefore, the master was so fresh that there was no time for it to deteriorate, and we were able to vacuum pack it in a state that would not change even if it was released in real time. Although there are many releases of MFSL, it is rare that they are as fresh as this. In fact, the sound is exquisite. In fact, unlike other classic rock types, DEF LEPPARD does not lose its peak even on the latest remastered version, but the natural sound of this work is still special. Although it does not have the same sound pressure as the current remaster, each sound in this work is equally outstanding and the outline is clear. The essence of this is the delicacy down to the smallest details. The darkness of silence is full of jet black depth, and even the curve that peaks from the beginning of the first note, and the vibe at the end of the silence that disappears into the darkness, are beautifully preserved. “Hysteria” is characterized by a thick sound due to a huge amount of overdubs, but the three-dimensional feel of each take is overwhelming. You can feel that dynamism even on the current remastered version, but it has a three-dimensional feel that seems to separate the main and overdubs. That being said, I am impressed with the skill of examining even the detailed SE, but this work is simply achieved with the freshness of the master tape and precise digital transfer. It is not a later image that “hysteria should be like this”, but because it is the real thing, no matter how many sounds are layered, it does not become unnatural, and the natural sound world expands. Moreover, the delicateness of the echo feeling is the key to the delay sound of the 1980s. The vibrations of the synths and guitars are just so pleasant, you don’t get tired of listening even when you play them at high volume through the speakers, and the more you listen to them with headphones, the more you discover the sound effects, and the depth of the expanding vibe is extremely beautiful. The master sound of the famous album has been preserved until today because it is a CD by “Mobile Fidelity”. Even if you want to get your hands on the actual product now, it will be difficult because it was originally produced in limited numbers.
