Description

“BUDOKAN 1973” records the riot that broke out during the band’s second performance in Japan. As I mentioned in the explanation for the other 2 CDs, this recording itself is old and has been known since the analog era, and was circulated as “CHAOS AT A CONCERT / BEDLAM IN A BED-SIT (UD 6532)” (known from the first half of the show). “GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT” is on a separate tape). Eventually, in the CD era, “DESTROYED THE ARENA” appeared where you could listen to all the live songs, and by excavating the Oomoto cassette that even included the “big riot scene”, the final album “BUDOKAN 1973” was born. This work is a direct CD version using the analog version “CHAOS AT A CONCERT / BEDLAM IN A BED-SIT” which remained in the best condition. Perhaps an attempt was made to collect good songs during the analog recording time, but the four songs “Highway Star,” “Child In Time,” “Lazy,” and “Space Truckin'” are recorded in different order. The last “Space Truckin’” is up to the closing greetings and does not include the “riot scene” where the recording restarts once interrupted. When you play it back, the warm analog sound brings back the best and worst Budokan live. Of course, it is not as fresh as “BUDOKAN 1973” reprinted from Oomoto cassette, but the rounded vintage sound is also truly historical and exudes a sense of spectacle that transcends time and space. It seems like the days when I used to wonder, “Why did this great live show turn into a riot…” are vividly brought back. Yes, without this work, I would have had to accept the comment that “I didn’t think the audience was enjoying the live performance.” In reality, it was “this sound” that told me that it was a wonderful live show that even came close to the legendary first visit to Japan in 1972. Audience recordings are more than just immersive live albums, they are the music that reaches the audience. A witness who leaves behind for posterity the “truth on the ground” that is hidden from the official press and distorted by hearsay…this work is an overwhelming reminder of this. Although the “big riot scene” is not included in this work, it is a work that is deeply engraved with the history of the sound source that has continued to testify to wonderful music. We hope that you will be able to enjoy the history of the witnesses through this documentary album, along with the other two CDs that were the great excavations of the century. Taken from the original LP(UD-6532) Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 25th June 1973 1. Lazy 2. Child In Time 3. Highway Star 4. Space Truckin’
