Description

From the 1985 Japan tour, “KNOCKED OUT TOKYO”, which was recorded on May 14th, the second day in Tokyo, with an audience source that is more powerful and realistic than the original master tape, is now available for the first time! DEEP PURPLE’s 1985 Japan tour was the first in about 12 years since June 1973, with the same lineup as the second season. The live performance was held with a high level of excitement reminiscent of their first visit to Japan in 1972, and made a strong impression of the “resurrection of the legend” in front of fans in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo. The one that is still talked about today is the performance at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, which was held for four consecutive days from May 13th to 16th. In particular, the second day of the live show, May 14th, has many sound sources, including press CD titles such as “THRILL OF CHASE” and “THE RICOCHET,” and it shows not only the band’s performance but also the mood of the venue and the fans. You can enjoy even the most exciting moments with excellent live sound. This newly discovered sound source is a joyful piece that allows you to enjoy the live performance on the 14th again from a new perspective (according to the ticket provided by Taper, it was recorded from No. 27 in G row on the east 1st floor). Direct use of the original cassette master that is completely unknown even among traders. Although it is not as good as “THRILL OF CHASE”, where the sound clarity and balance were miraculous, the sound with a certain brightness and great power will let you enjoy the charm of an excellent live tape. As you can tell by listening to the opening intro, the venue is filled with thunderous applause and cheers from beginning to end. The joy of fans of being able to see DEEP PURPLE will overwhelm listeners with the roaring excitement of “Highway Star” and “Nobody’s Home.” The band’s performance was also intense enough to match the excitement of the fans. Gillan’s outrageous vocals and Richie’s sharpened guitar are at their peak from the beginning of the live performance. As a result of the musical sounds in the venue being captured on, there are scenes with distortion and excessive input, but this destructive sound is probably the original DEEP PURPLE live performance. The beauty of this recording is that it captures not only the power but also the performance. As you can understand in “Strange Kind Of Woman” etc., Richie’s guitar can be heard with a particularly clear outline. The interaction between Richie and Gillan in the second half of the song is also reproduced with an excellent direct feeling, and the listener will be fascinated by this. The following “Blues” also has Richie’s guitar and John’s keyboard, which is a line source-like listen. “A Gypsy’s Kiss” and “Under The Gun”, which seem to rush forward at once, are also truly amazing on this recording! The familiar “Lazy” and “Child In Time” also feature a band ensemble centered around Richie’s guitar with an incredible power. “Space Truckin”’ is a great listen, as the audience’s clapping and chorus seem to be creating a performance together with the band. The band’s momentum finally reached its peak in the encore songs “Woman From Tokyo”, “Black Night”, and “Smoke On The Water”. Even after the performance, the excitement and enthusiasm in the venue did not subside easily, making you realize just how amazing this day’s live performance was (you can also listen to the final performance announcement for about 30 seconds until the end of the recording). This work captures the May 14th event, which was particularly impressive during the 1985 performance in Japan, with a lively sense of presence and lively live sound that is different from the masterpiece “THRILL OF THE CHASE”, and the taste varies depending on the recording position. You will enjoy the depth of audience sources that change their appeal. We would like you to enjoy DEEP PURPLE’s ’85 Budokan live once again, along with the masterpiece “FAR FROM GOD” from the 1985 Japan tour, and the definitive version “THE MAGNIFICENT FIVE” recorded on the 16th!
