Description
The fifth DEEP PURPLE toured Europe after their 1985 Japan tour, and the final day of the four consecutive Swedish performances held as a warm-up for the “Knebworth Festival”, the Malmo performance on June 18th, has been released with the highest quality ever, with both sound and video fully corrected! This video captures the ’85 DEEP PURPLE live performance with excellent stability and clarity from the audience seats on the left side of the stage, and the quality, which can be said to be almost the best as an audience shoot at that time, was highly praised at the time of the previous appearance as “a video that would not be surprising if released separately”. However, this master had many sound cuts and sound delays due to analog tracking problems, especially in “Nobody’s Home” and “Space Truckin'” (as a result, the sound and video did not match at all when watching the drums). Since the original material was so clear and easy to see, these sound cuts and delays were very much missed, and fans were calling for the release of a better version in even better condition. In response to this voice, this work, which is being released this time, as the name “Remastered Edition” suggests, many of the weak points seen in the original version have been carefully corrected one by one (the above-mentioned sound delay has also been greatly improved). It is especially noteworthy that the screen problems that occurred several times during the guitar solo in the latter half of “Space Truckin'”, where you can enjoy the most delicious images, have been cleared. As a result of careful and time-consuming correction work over the entire material, the 97-minute recording time has been reborn as a version that can be enjoyed without stress, and the difference in quality will be surprising for those who already know it. As mentioned above, this work uses a master with excellent image quality and sound quality from the beginning, and the material allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of the live performance well, and the camera work and angles that skillfully zoom in on Richie’s solo are also wonderful. Perhaps due to the three consecutive days of performances in Stockholm from June 14th to 16th, Gillan seemed a little tired from the opening song “Highway Star”, but the band’s performances, including Richie, John, and Pace, were very good, and fans will be very pleased with the performances of “Strange Kind Of Woman” and “A Gypsy’s Kiss” (Ritchie and Roger, who are dynamic, are particularly eye-catching in “A Gypsy’s Kiss”). The previous version of “Nobody’s Home”, which was stressful due to sound skipping, has overcome these weaknesses and is much easier to see and hear. The stress-free and refreshing enjoyment of the live performance has improved the overall flow, and the power of “Under The Gun” and the driving feeling of “Lazy” are more prominent. Unfortunately, “Child In Time” cannot be heard on this day, but the choices from the new album, such as “Perfect Strangers” and “Knockin’ At Your Backdoor”, stand out accordingly. It could be said that this was the day when the spotlight was on the songs of the fifth period, which exude the taste of their mastery. There are plenty of highlights that can only be seen in the video, such as “Woman From Tokyo” and “Black Night”, where a large balloon is thrown onto the stage, and “Smoke On The Water”, where Richie and Roger switch instruments in the latter half of the song. In particular, this “Smoke On The Water” is a must-see, as the members’ feelings of “fun” and “fulfillment at the successful reunion” are expressed from Roger’s impressive actions as he plays the guitar, and Richie silently beats the rhythm in front of the drums. It is no wonder that John later said, “It was the best time of my life.” This is one of the top-class videos of the fifth period of DEEP PURPLE in the ’80s, and it is back with a quality that surpasses the previous release. If you own the previous version, please take this opportunity to get this superb video that you should compare and feel the difference! Live at Isstadion, Malmo, Sweden 18th June 1985 AMAZING SHOT!!
