Description

From the 1975 Japan tour of Purple’s 4th period after the release of “COME TASTE THE BAND” when Tommy Bolin was enrolled, the live performance at Osaka Welfare Pension Hall on December 11th, the second performance in Japan, was recorded with two good audience masters. First of all, as is well known, the performance in Japan at this time was criticized for Tommy Bolin’s poor condition, but the vocals of Coverdale and soulful Glenn are wonderful, and Tommy also struggled a lot with the solos and backing of each song, so it may not be so ugly when you listen to it again. And of the two types of audience masters, “Recorder 1” is a source that was previously distributed and was awarded as the best quality, and the quality is better than the previous release by carefully remastering it to remove noise as much as possible. In addition, “Recorder 2” is a newly excavated material from the same day, which was also remastered, and hiss noise and analog noise caused by the original sound were also removed as much as possible. The encore “Highway Star” is not included, and although the sound quality is a little closer to the stage, the audience’s voices and screams are less loud, which is a good point. Tommy’s guitar, which was said to be in poor condition during the live performance, shows off his sharp playing, such as the riffs and solos in “Burn” and “Love Child”, and the cutting in “Gettin’ Tighter”. In addition, the playing in the middle of “Gettin’ Tighter”, the flow of “Georgia On My Mind” following “Smoke On The Water”, and the fusion-touch arrangement in “Lazy” following John’s solo, the ensemble unique to this fourth period is something that we would like to recognize once again, and this limited memorial item contains the legendary performance in Japan.
