Description

DEEP PURPLE came to Japan to announce “THE LONG GOODBYE”. The masterpiece original recording has been decided to be released. The Japan tour, which caused a stir in the streets as if it might really be the last, just recently concluded its final performance in Fukuoka. The atmosphere is filled with the feeling of reminiscing about the 46 years since our first visit to Japan. Among them, this work includes the “October 17, 2018: Osaka Festival Hall” performance. Yes, it is a live album where you can meet DEEP PURPLE who returned to the main venue of that famous album “MADE IN JAPAN”. First, let’s look back at the show’s position from the latest tour dates. ・October 14: Makuhari Messe ・October 15: Century Hall, Nagoya International Conference Center ・October 17: Osaka Festival Hall [This work] ・October 18: Osaka Festival Hall ・October 20: Hiroshima Ueno Gakuen Hall ・October 22nd: Fukuoka Sun Palace A total of 6 performances. This Kanto performance will not be held at Nippon Budokan, but only at Makuhari Messe. The only venue for “MADE IN JAPAN” was Osaka Festival Hall. As a result, it has received a lot of attention, and although there was originally scheduled to be one performance, an additional performance was announced. This work is a masterpiece audience recording of the first day performance of Osaka 2DAYS. The quality is truly a wonderful spectacle sound. This show is also included in “OSAKA 2018” which will be released normally this week, but it is a special recording of the second row at the front. Even the live sound is a straight shot, which gives it a strange power, but on the other hand, this work is an audience recording with a normal feeling. Of course, even though it feels normal, it is a matter of balance, and the quality itself is exceptional. The sturdy core reaches you straight, and you can enjoy the fine details with plenty of feedback. Because it captures the power of the scene so much, the limiter may be applied a little at the peak, but even when the performance becomes intense, there is no chatter. It is a live album where you can enjoy the powerful band sound as it is. A full show at a traditional venue with such quality is a flashback of 46 years of memories, but the supple ensemble is still amazing. Even the youngest Steve Morse is 64 years old, but Ian Gillan’s shout makes you feel the ring of growth, but on the other hand, that is the only element that makes you feel his age. The phrases that Mose and Don Airey spun are colorful and unrelenting, and their improvisation is endlessly rich. Even more impressive is the rhythm section. Roger Glover’s lines are so full of singing that you’d think they’re at their peak right now, and Ian Paice’s drumming boasts an unrelenting skill, with a vivid swing feel that never gets out of whack from beginning to end. It is true that DEEP PURPLE’s unchanging signature is the guitar vs. keyboard battle, and that is also the star of this work. However, it is the rhythm section that continues to lead the show itself. It is a famous recording where you can enjoy the fine details of the performance so well that you can’t help but think of the uncool coined words such as “lead beat”. “THE LONG GOODBYE TOUR” is preceded by “Is it really the last?”, but the music played at the scene was not that cheap. The latest DEEP PURPLE performs even classic songs with a potential that goes beyond the realm of nostalgic melodies. I can’t ignore the emotional attachment to “MADE IN JAPAN” since it’s a festival hall, but it’s also simply wonderful as a new music album.
