Description
The eternal masterpiece “MADE IN JAPAN”. A masterpiece documentary featuring Chu’s professional shots will be released. The true identity of this work is “THE RISE OF DEEP PURPLE MK II”, a documentary produced for the box set edition of “MADE IN JAPAN” released in 2014. It is a historical piece that focuses on “MACHINE HEAD” and “MADE IN JAPAN” in the long history of PURPLE, and it is a masterpiece that stands out from other documentaries with extremely rare footage and rich comments from those involved. What was particularly powerful was that it contained footage of the performance at “August 17, 1972: Nippon Budokan”, which was the stage for “MADE IN JAPAN”. The incredible experience of seeing the “other side” of that historic masterpiece moving was realized, and it sent shockwaves throughout the world. Not only is this shocking video work available in an expensive box set, but it has also been released as a standalone DVD. It was also visible to many fans. This work is a copy of the official product. . . Not. In fact, this video was aired on a certain satellite broadcasting station in February 2015, before it was released as a single item. This work is the special program “Deep Purple Documentary: Made in Japan”. Since the broadcast time is one hour, there is no bonus footage included on the official DVD, but the full documentary is included. Of course, since it’s 2015, both broadcasting and recording are completely digital, and the DVD has been converted to DVD without any deterioration. And the most important thing is Japanese subtitles. Since it is a documentary, it is important whether the comments are conveyed vividly or not, and even if it is an official DVD, an imported version is not enough. Of course, since this work is broadcast in Japan, it can be perfectly understood with the program’s own subtitles. Now, this work, drawn with such quality and subtitles, is amazing. It starts with a message from Gillan announcing the end of the second season of PURPLE, the members arriving at the airport, their passports at the time, off-shots of their first visit to Japan, the Nippon Budokan destroyed in the riot, etc… A rush of dazzling valuable footage. Of course, there are many familiar TV pro shots, but all of these videos are of the highest quality ever. There is plenty of visual beauty that will make you wonder, “Was it really that beautiful?” The content starts from the I period, changes in members to the II period, the breakout with “IN ROCK”, etc., and follows the times, but it is just a rush. The maximum amount of time is devoted to the two main tracks, “MACHINE HEAD” and “MADE IN JAPAN.” And here’s where it gets serious. It thoroughly follows from the selection of the studio to record “MACHINE HEAD”, and explains in detail why it ended up in Montreux (it’s a deep look that even talks about the contract situation at the time). It sounds boring when I write this, but it’s not. In Montreux, Frank Zappa appears saying, “There’s a concert I want to see. It’s DEEP PURPLE,” and the “Montreux Jazz Festival” and live scenes are also depicted (in super high quality). And what is shocking here is the Montreux Casino fire, which is also mentioned in the lyrics of “Smoke On The Water”! The scene of the fire that occurred on “December 4, 1971” is shown on video (not a photo), and you can clearly see the casino in flames. Moreover, those involved at the time also spoke of the confusion, and Zappa vividly said, “When we started King Kong, we noticed a fire and stopped the performance. There was a window at the back of the stage. The distance to the ground was probably about 2 meters.” I will testify in detail. To be able to see that legendary scene in the highest quality footage… After that, many secret stories behind the production of “MACHINE HEAD” were revealed, and the story finally turned to “MADE IN JAPAN.” The “MADE IN JAPAN” audio is synchronized with the monochrome video, and the historic masterpiece begins to move… Unfortunately, the footage is filmed in bits and pieces, but the editing is so skillful that there’s nothing unsatisfying about it. The members’ comments are interjected between the rare live scenes, and “MADE IN JAPAN” continues to play in the background. Just watching the thrilling performance gets you excited, and the comments are also rich. The trivia that I have been cramming into my head so far is connected through the words of the members, and together with the sights, “August 1972” is recreated in my head. It is a documentary that stimulates both joy and reason at the same time, and seems to overwhelm Noh’s processing capabilities. Afterwards, the behind-the-scenes details of the members’ feuds and withdrawal dramas (including the idea of BABY FACE with Phil Lynott) are revealed in detail from each member’s point of view, and juniors such as METALLICA, Bruce Dickinson, Joe Satriani, etc. They enthusiastically talk about the greatness of DEEP PURPLE. The film ends with Goro Itoi’s legendary MC playing over the destroyed Nippon Budokan. I don’t even have a second’s preference at all. The video of his first visit to Japan at Budokan is shocking, but that’s not the only thing. Every detail is carefully crafted, and every word the members say is interesting. In any case, it is a masterpiece of PURPLE documentary that is extremely valuable and complete. It’s a collector’s item for those who own the “MADE IN JAPAN” box or official DVD, but for those who haven’t seen it yet, it’s a masterpiece that promises the biggest shock.
