Description
“MACHINE HEAD” is the masterpiece of the hero DEEP PURPLE and an eternal monument of British HR. A masterpiece documentary that approaches the behind-the-scenes of the famous album is set to be released. The true identity of this work is the popular British program “CLASSIC ALBUMS”. This is the “MACHINE HEAD” edition. This program will highlight one of the greatest albums in rock history, and will unravel the scene by collecting comments from people who knew the era, including members, producers, managers, journalists, etc. From 1997 to the present, we have featured 45 masterpieces (53 if you include the Dutch edition), and DEEP PURPLE’s “MACHINE HEAD” was the 20th episode broadcast in 2002. This series is popular for its highly complete style, and in addition to the main broadcast in the UK, it has also been released as an individual DVD product. It is familiar to fans of each band. However, this work is not a copy of that. This is the Japan Broadcasting version that was aired by a certain satellite broadcasting station on August 15, 2006 (the same day as the first day of his first visit to Japan). The biggest point of this series is the depth. Many rock documentaries focus on the history of the band, but since “CLASSIC ALBUMS” is focused on one album, it covers the process leading up to its production, the intent of the composition, the production procedure, and the reaction after its release. It can be viewed from multiple angles, and the comments from those involved are also in-depth. Moreover, great albums are often talked about as successes, so they often serve as milestones in the musicians’ careers. After that, they make a big leap forward, or on the other hand, they break up due to disagreements…Even if it’s not their career as a whole, it creates a sense of weight that weighs on their lives. This work is the “MACHINE HEAD” edition of such a series. The story begins with the birth of the second period, and explains the background by following the trial and error of orchestral co-starring → success of “IN ROCK” → “FIREBALL”. Then, it is finally time to produce “MACHINE HEAD”, and the taste of the masterpiece series explodes from the first “Highway Star”. It is performed by the members themselves and multi-tracked. For example, Jon Lord, sitting in front of the organ, explains, “I thought my role was to provide a Bach-like performance,” and when he played the deep harmonies of church music live, it turned out to be “Highway”. In sync with the backing of “Star”, the classical arpeggio becomes that solo. The same goes for Richie’s guitar solo that appears next. Martin Birch and Roger Glover explain while tinkering with real multi-tracks. As soon as Richie says, “It’s a Mozart-like arpeggio,” the backing and harmony tracks disappear, leaving only the solo main track as the track is played vividly. To be able to listen to that legendary solo completely naked… Just the other side of the masterpiece. This is the real thrill of “CLASSIC ALBUMS” made with the full cooperation of everyone involved. “Highway Star” alone became long, but in “Smoke On The Water” they reveal the secret of the riff while playing the acoustic guitar live, and each person talks about the Montreux fire in detail at the time. “Pictures Of Home” talks about the Bulgarian shortwave broadcasting that became the source material, the meaning of the mysterious lyrics of “Space Truckin'”, the commitment to “Never Before” which was the best song at the time, etc. Actually, “Maybe I’m a Leo” and “Lazy” do not appear, so it is not a complete song, but the depth of the comments is special. The corridors of the hotel, which have become legendary, are recreated as realistically as you can see right in front of your eyes, using on-site photos and vivid testimonies. Finally, the masterpiece documentary concludes by talking about “When a Blind Man Cries”, which was produced at the same time as “MACHINE HEAD” but was not included. After that, an official pro shot of “Smoke On The Water” was added as a unique production of the program, but the one chosen there was the take of “COME HELL OR HIGH WATER”. Of course, this video was the last appearance of the “Golden Five” and they were never seen together again. This work concludes by silently conveying the weight of these five people. The “MACHINE HEAD” edition of the masterpiece documentary series that unravels the behind-the-scenes of famous albums, such as the rhythm, backing, and secret stories of legendary solos that you have casually missed until now.
