Description
The broadcast sound source of “BBC IN CONCERT” recorded live at the London “Paris Theater” on February 19, 1970, just before DEEP PURPLE released “IN ROCK”, and on March 9, 1972, just after the production of “MACHINE HEAD”, has been repeatedly re-released until recent years since it was made official under the title “DEEP PURPLE IN CONCERT”, and it is a work familiar to fans for a long time. Since this sound source was made official, the material using the old air check sound source has been wiped out, but this work, released as a “collector’s item” for the first time in a long time in 2004, is a “super official version” based on two original BBC transcription discs in excellent condition, and the spectacular live performance reproduced with a texture completely different from the official CD was greeted with speechless and rave reviews from old fans who are picky about sound. As evidenced by the items of JEFF BECK and THIN LIZZY, the sound quality of the BBC master recording is overwhelming, and when comparing the mixed power of the middle part of ’70’s ”Speed King” and the intro of “Wring That Neck” with the official version, the power and punchiness are like a weight and texture of another dimension. The natural sound of the organ played by Jon Lord is endlessly full, and Richie’s guitar is full of a sense of existence that explodes in front of your eyes. Of course, the difference in sound is clear even in ’72…or rather, the master recording used in this work has a higher quality sound and the difference in power is obvious. Ian Paice’s three-dimensional drum sound in the intro of “Highway Star” and Roger Glover’s driving bass line in “Never Before” also come to mind with a different texture than the sound we are used to hearing on the official version. Ian Gillan’s frantic screaming and singing on the final song, “Lucille,” will have all listeners leaning back! Those who have never experienced the warm, natural texture and deep, warm comfort that only these original analog recordings have will be amazed. This spectacular live performance is the true awesomeness of PURPLE’s second period live show in the early 1970s, which has become legendary among fans around the world! (Also, since the official CD format was re-released as a “full-length version” over 10 years ago, the track list has been changed significantly, starting with 1970’s “Child in Time” and then 1972’s “Smoke on the Water” and “Maybe I’m a Leo,” but this BBC original version has the set played in the correct order.) The BBC transcription disc itself is still available (although it is very rare) today. However, most of these materials have been heavily damaged by being passed through many collectors, and it is no exaggeration to say that master copies without even a needle crackle are already impossible to obtain at the general collector level. Even if you were to play a disc in good condition, many fans would hesitate to put the needle down when they thought of the strain it would put on the disc. With this album, you don’t have to consider such negative factors, and you can enjoy this elegant and tasteful sound in the best condition whenever you want! A piece of music only has value when it can be played by those who want to listen to it. The release of this album is undoubtedly good news for those who own transcriptions but have not been able to listen to them for fear of the disc deteriorating, as well as beginners who are about to enter the profound world of collecting.
