Description
From the 2nd DEEP PURPLE’s German tour at the end of 1970, the audience source recorded from the Heidelberg performance on November 28th will be released on CD as the best sound quality record ever using the 1st generation master! You can enjoy the 72-minute live performance, which includes the rare “Good Golly Miss Molly” among the live recordings of the same year, with ease of listening that far exceeds previous releases! DEEP PURPLE’s live show in 1970 after the release of “IN ROCK” was one of the best live performances in the UK and other European countries, regardless of whether it was an official work or a collector’s edition. Among them, the one that is considered to be a classic in terms of both sound quality and performance is the official work “LIVE IN STOCKHOLM” which recorded the performance in Stockholm, Sweden on November 12th, but the songs played at this live show were slightly different depending on the day. Not only are their compositions different, but the performances are centered on interplay and improvisation between the members, so it goes without saying that all of the existing sound sources have their own unique individuality and charm. This Heidelberg performance is a typical live performance. As almost the only live sound source where you can listen to “Good Golly Miss Molly”, which was featured in the encore, it has been popular among enthusiasts for a long time since its release appeared about 10 years ago. However, because this existing sound source used a tape from a lower generation that appears to have been copied many times as a master, unfortunately the sound is muddy, muddy, and scratchy due to tape dubbing, and there is also distortion. Although it was standard as an audience source at the time, it was not necessarily a sound source that could be called “easy to listen to.” The original sound source unearthed this time is an amazing source that directly digitized the 1st generation sound source, which was copied and stored on reel tape by an overseas collector from the master tape that recorded this Heidelberg performance! This live show, which had many fans wishing to “listen to it with better sound quality” because it contained valuable rare takes, has been revived with outstanding freshness and perspective! The opening intro and “Speed King” may give the impression that the rhythm is a little difficult to grasp, but enthusiasts will be surprised by the clearly improved outlook and ease of listening compared to the previous releases. The sound image gradually becomes established, and from the middle of “Speed King” onwards to “Into The Fire”, Pace and Roger’s rhythm becomes clear, and Richie’s guitar also has a certain firmness and edge that you can enjoy (heavy). “Into The Fire” surprises me). The sound that was biased towards the midrange in the previous releases is backed by a high degree of freshness, but in this work, the treble is clear and the bass is powerful, reproducing the thrilling PURPLE live with a sharp sound. As is well known among fans, John’s organ played a very prominent role in this live performance, and on “Child In Time” and “Mandrake Root” you can hear his great performance, which even surpassed Ritchie’s. (Even quiet and delicate parts that you could not hear before can be clearly heard in the original sound source). From the first half to the middle of the song, Ritchie’s guitar gradually becomes immersed in the performance, and when he says, “Here we go!”, it fiercely competes with John’s organ. The improvisation of the song is exceptional! These two songs alone are over 40 minutes long, which is more than half of the original recording, but listeners may forget even the passage of time as they surrender to the thrilling performance. Of course, Gillan also showed off his superhuman singing voice from the beginning of the live performance, especially in the first half of “Child In Time” and “Mandrake Root”, which knocked out the listener with a wonderful scream. Although the beginning of the second half of the live performance, “Black Night”, is missing due to the master’s circumstances, fans who know about the previous release should be deeply moved by the reliable sound quality that seems to have a single core. The final scene, where Richie’s guitar and Gillan’s vocals scream out in competition, is nothing short of spectacular! The big listening point of this live will appear at the end as mentioned above. The encore, a medley of Little Richard’s famous songs “Lucille” and “Good Golly Miss Molly”, is sure to surprise PURPLE fans with a performance that can be described as a driving mood and frenzy! Many of the live recordings from 1970 are well-known, but it is hard to find a show where the stage was as exciting as it was on this day! It is a shame that this 1st Generation Master was not a complete recording of the live performance, as there are cuts between songs, but the sound quality can be declared the best ever from the same day, and the rare “Good Golly Miss” Molly” and a performance that captivates the listener’s ears and never lets go, this work is a must-listen not only for DEEP PURPLE fans but also for all hard rock fans. It is hard to imagine a take with better sound quality than this at the Heidelberg performance on November 28, 1970. Fans, please do not miss the definitive version of the same day sound source that has finally appeared on CD!
