Description

Knebworth Park in 1985 was the only UK performance during the “PERFECT STRANGERS” era and the biggest stage for the “Golden Five”. A complete live album that lets you experience the whole story has been born! What is engraved in this work is, of course, the “Knebworth performance on June 22, 1985”. It is a stereo soundboard recording. As is familiar from the official work “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK”, this work is a major decision board that greatly updates both the length and sound. The content is special, but the show itself is also the best. First of all, in order to explain its meaning, let’s look back at the whole view of the “PERFECT STRANGERS Tour” that excited the whole world. 1984: October 29th release of “PERFECT STRANGERS” November 27th – December 18th: Oceania (13 performances) *Official video 1985: January 18th – April 9th: North America #1 (47 performances) May 3rd – 16th: Hawaii + Japan (8 performances) June 14th – July 17th: Europe (17 performances) *Here August 14th – 24th: North America #2 (6 performances) This is DEEP PURPLE in 1984/1985. The Knebworth performance in this work was the fifth concert of the “European” tour. This alone seems like an ordinary show, but it was not. Looking at the whole picture, it was a literal world tour that went not only to Europe and the United States, but also to Japan and Oceania, but only one performance was held in their home country of England during that time. However, it was a huge scale as it was such a rare opportunity. The headliners of the festival were seven bands, including the SCORPIONS, Meat Loaf, UFO, Bernie Marsden’s ALASKA, BLACKFOOT, and MAMA’S BOYS, who were in the midst of their big hits. It was the biggest stage of the reunion era, which could be called the “Cali Jam of the 1980s”. The show was recorded by the prestigious BBC and broadcast on radio one week later on June 29th. In addition, in 1991, the excavated live album “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK” was officially released, and it has reigned as the “symbol of the PERFECT STRANGERS Tour”. This work updates the longest and highest peak of such a traditional sound board. Of course, this work is not a copy or remaster of the official version. It uses a newly excavated pre-FM master with better sound quality than “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK”, and the “Lazy” that was missing from the broadcast version is supplemented with the official version to cover all the existing sound boards. In addition, it is a complete version that complements two songs that do not have a sound board and several MCs with the best audience recordings on the same day. Let’s summarize it together with the set organization here. Machine Head Highway Star / Lazy (*) / Space Truckin’ / Smoke On The Water Perfect Strangers Nobody’s Home / A Gypsy’s Kiss / Perfect Strangers / Under The Gun (★) / Knocking At Your Back Door Other Classics: Black Night / Speed King / Strange Kind Of Woman / Woman From Tokyo (★) Others: Blues / Difficult To Cure * Note: “★” marks are songs that are complemented by audience recordings. “*” marks are songs that are complemented by the official “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK”. … and this is a full set of the show including two songs that could not be heard officially. Not only can you enjoy all of these songs, but the show outro by Tommy Vance that was played after the show is also fully recorded. It is the longest version, about 11 minutes longer than the official version. Moreover, the sound has been updated to the highest peak. The official BBC master was either deteriorated or over-processed, the bass was fluffy and poorly separated, while the drum beats were strangely emphasized. It was a rough and stiff sound overall. With headphones, it was a sound that you couldn’t hear until the end and your ears hurt. In contrast, this work is extremely natural. Since the recording conditions can’t be changed, it would be an exaggeration to say “It’s as beautiful as MADE IN JAPAN!” However, no matter how harshly the guitar and vocals are played, they are smooth and beautiful, and the bass drum’s beat peak and Gillan’s shout are powerful yet do not hurt your ears. Those who have listened to “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK” will be surprised that such a good master was left, and they will wonder why the official version was not made with this sound. And the audience recording that makes up for the lack is also superb. Because the broadcast and official records were so famous, the customer records were hardly known, but in fact, the famous recordings themselves have existed since the analog era. The sound is clear and direct (it would be a lie to say that “I don’t know the switching point”), and there is almost no sense of incongruity when lined up with the sound board. The stage and the excavated live album were symbols of the “PERFECT STRANGERS” era in 1985 at Knebworth. This is a complete live album that allows you to enjoy the whole view at once. It covers all the existing sound boards (at the highest quality), and is a work that reaches the pinnacle of quality and quantity with even the missing parts filled in. Stereo sound board recording of “Knebworth performance on June 22, 1985”. Based on the BBC pre-FM master, which has better sound quality than the official album “IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK”, this is a complete version that complements “Under The Gun” and “Woman From Tokyo”, which do not have a sandboard, with the best audience recording of the same day. This is the definitive album that lets you experience the biggest stage of the reunion era, worthy of being called “80’s Cali Jam”, in the longest and highest quality to date.
