Description
From DEEP PURPLE’s “SLAVES AND MASTERS” tour, the performance at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 20, 1991, which is known to fans as a classic, has been directly recorded using the high-level master material. During the US tour, eight performances were held from April 10 to 22, 1991, and two performances were held in Philadelphia, including the previous day, making it the highlight of the US tour. The sound source from that day has long been known as “BURNING PURPLE” and “PHILADELPHIA 1991”, and is an essential sound source for knowing this tour. Among domestic fans, it is called an FM sound source or an advanced audience recording, but according to overseas collectors, it seems to be an FM source based on a broadcast sound source. However, the former “BURNING PURPLE” has a little bit of sound quality, such as distortion and muffledness caused by the master, while “PHILADELPHIA 1991” is clear and has excellent sound quality, but the pitch is inaccurate, so both have their pros and cons. This work, which will be released this time, is a full remaster of the master tape that was the basis for “PHILADELPHIA 1991”, and the distortion and noise found in the original sound source have been corrected as much as possible, and the pitch, which was about a semitone slow, has been accurately adjusted, making it a suitable definitive version of the day. The opening song, “Burn”, which was unfortunately cut from “FIRE IN ISRAEL”, is a major highlight of this sound source. Although Joe’s vocals and Roger Glover’s clearly audible bass are very different from the song in the third period, this song is the band’s first revival in 15 years, and many people will find the unique charm of the sixth period here. The choices from “SLAVES AND MASTERS”, such as the bluesy “Truth Hurts”, which has an urban smartness and unique melancholy, the sophisticated and sharp speed of “The Cut Runs Deep”, and the extremely sad “Love Conquers All”, all have excellent melodies and familiarity. The set list, which exquisitely interweaves these new songs with PURPLE’s classics, creates a unique worldview that is unique to the ’91 tour. “Kocking At Your Back Door,” in which Joe passionately sings the original song, is a highlight of the second half. “Lazy” from that year is a compact arrangement, but Richie John Pace’s playing is condensed into its short length, making it a great listen. “Highway Star,” which Joe showed confidence in in an interview at the time, also exudes the ’90s atmosphere and new power that he spoke of, making it a must-listen part. The encore, “Smoke On The Water,” is an arrangement that was only available at the time, including a drum solo and “Woman From Tokyo.” Don’t miss the moment just before the second half of the song, “Woman From Tokyo,” when the band gets excited by Richie’s “Hall Of The Mountain King.” The main soundboard recordings from this ’91 tour have been released, including “FIRE IN ISRAEL” from the Tel Aviv performance, which will be released this time, and “SLAVES AND MASTER TAPES” which mainly recorded the Sao Paulo performance in August. The release has been decided so that many fans can experience the greatness of the sixth DEEP PURPLE. Melodious hard rock that Richie tried to create with the reunited PURPLE after the ’80s!
