Description
An extremely rare and exquisite official work has been discovered. The release has been decided. The official work is the cassette tape “BEST 16: All About Deep Purple.” This is a compilation album released only in Japan in 1980. [Officially released rare item that even collectors miss] This work is truly a rare item. It is not a promotional product, but an official product sold at a list price of 3,000 yen, and the contents are the best albums from the 2nd to 4th seasons. However, the artwork includes live shots of the 4th DEEP PURPLE and (for some reason) RAINBOW, making it a suspicious piece, and many collectors may not even know of its existence. Speaking of 1980, the compilation masterpiece “DEEPEST PURPLE” was also released, but the selection of this work is different. Let’s sort things out a bit. ●Side A/MACHINE HEAD: Highway Star/Never Before/Smoke On The Water/Lazy/Space Truckin’ ・STORMBRINGER: Stormbringer/Soldier Of Fortune・MADE IN EUROPE: Burn ●Side B・Black Night・FIREBALL: Fireball/Strange Kind Of Woman・IN ROCK: Speed King/Child In Time・LAST CONCERT IN JAPAN: Love Child/You Keep On Moving・MADE IN EUROPE: Mistreated…and it goes like this. Although the overemphasis on “MACHINE HEAD” is okay, “WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE” is ignored, and even though the songs “BURN” and “COME TASTE THE BAND” are live takes, there is nothing from “MADE IN JAPAN”. Although the song order is original, the songs on each album are consolidated, and both sides end with “MADE IN EUROPE”. It’s not in chronological order, and it doesn’t seem like there’s a flow to it. What can I say, it seems like they’re being particular about it, and I can’t really see their editorial intentions. It somehow feels like a “favorite tape made by the person in charge at Record Company”. [Surprising super-exquisite sound] Well, it’s just a product of the whims of the times, but if that was all there was to it, I wouldn’t have introduced it. However, when I tried playing it just to be sure, I was blown away. The sound that came out was the best! There’s a slight hiss, so I can’t really advertise it as “the ultimate sound!”, but it’s much better than the official CDs of Sonjosoka and others. The analog feel unique to cassette tapes is different from both groove-recorded records and digital-signal CDs. It is overwhelmingly natural, yet dynamic, with a rich core and deep sound. It doesn’t have a high quality or too many edges like the sound pressure boosting remastered CDs that were prevalent for a while, and it’s more vivid than the natural-oriented remastered CDs of recent years. The bass that plays in the intro of “Never Before” has an exquisite tenacity, and the acoustic guitar in “Soldier Of Fortune” is so beautiful that it sends shivers down your spine. Why did this sound remain? Maybe it was because of the 1980s, or maybe the masters owned by Japan were great. Or maybe it’s the characteristics of the magnetic tape, or the quality of its preservation. Perhaps it was the result of all of these things combined, but anyway, a high quality sound that I had never experienced before came out. Truly a rare item and of the highest quality. Even if they owned it, very few collectors would have tried to play it, as it was a work whose existence was not even noticed. Unimaginable sounds come out of unimagined things…this is why mania can’t be stopped. A 2-disc set that has been precisely digitized from the official tapes of a hidden treasure that only those in the know know… or rather, that no one knew about. ★The sound quality is quite good, and the sound unique to official cassettes is different from records and later CDs. Certainly, it is impossible to reproduce this texture with current CDs. Official cassette is scary! ★There is some hiss, but the sound is thick and quite good. The natural sound is just the best, without any unreasonable hardness or directness. And nostalgic!
