Description

Dave Gilmore’s solo tour “ON AN ISLAND TOUR” was realized for the first time in 22 years. A masterpiece video that allows you to experience the highlight performance on-site has been decided to be released. This work includes “May 30, 2006 London Performance”. This is an audience shot taken at the traditional venue “Royal Albert Hall (RAH)”. As many of you may have noticed, “2006 RAH” is also known for its official work “REMEMBER THAT NIGHT.” The official work was compiled from the three days of “May 29th, 30th, and 31st,” but this work was born from the 1st. It is a 100% video of the real person standing at that scene. The biggest point of this work is the mysterious coexistence of “experience unique to the audience” and “quality apart from the audience,” but first of all, the position of the show. Let’s check the overall picture of “ON AN ISLAND TOUR”. [“ON AN ISLAND” released on March 6th] ・March 7th-26th: Europe #1 (11 performances) ・April 4th-20th: North America (10 performances) ・May 26th-31st : UK (5 performances) ←★Coko★・July 27th – August 26th: Europe #2 (7 performances) This is the overall picture of his first solo tour in 22 years. Although it is subdivided by region, it is roughly divided into two periods: “Europe #1 + North America + UK” is the spring edition, and “Europe #2” is the summer edition. The RAH performance of this work is the highlight of the main spring edition. This was the fourth concert of the “UK” tour. This work, which was shot at such a show, is extremely realistic and exquisite. This video was released before the release of “REMEMBER THAT NIGHT” and became a hot topic, but the reason it attracted attention was not only because there was no official video. In any case, there is a rush of furious do-ups. This work begins with a seated scene before the performance, and from that it can be inferred that the shooting position is about the 15th row in front of the stage even in the arena seats. However, you can only know this before the performance begins. When the performance begins, it zooms in on Gilmore and Richard Wright, their bust-ups protruding from the screen, and their facial expressions do close-ups. And the sense of stability is also out of the ordinary. I don’t shake the camera too much, so even though it’s super zoomed, I can stare at it carefully without getting any camera shake. It’s hard to say it’s a “just like a professional shot” because it’s a genuine official video, but I still want to say that it’s super close-up and stable. And the audio that matches the scene is also wonderful. Although it is not so close that it can be mistaken for a sound board, it does not mean that there is a sense of distance. RAH’s elegant sound gently and slightly coats the core, and the weeping guitar and mature vocals are just as glossy. Coupled with the fantastical feel of the song (despite the existence of an official soundboard), it is a world of beautiful sounds that you will want to immerse yourself in forever. Although this work goes beyond the conventional wisdom of photographing the audience, it has one major drawback. That means it’s a digest video. Although there are 15 songs included, each song focuses on the highlight, and you don’t have to wait for the performance to finish before moving on to the next song. However, it still takes about 53 minutes in total. Moreover, the sights are perfect. Crosby and Nash who appear in “On An Island” and Robert Wyatt playing the cornet in “Then I Close My Eyes” are also well captured, and Rick’s smiling face in “Then I Close My Eyes” is well captured. It’s irresistible too. And it’s super real. For example, Crosby & Nash. He plays the chorus in the background where Gilmore is singing passionately, but when he spots the two, he zooms in as if to say, “Oh, it’s David Crosby!” The sight of him smiling as he watches Gilmore’s passionate performance becomes a close-up. With multi-camera professional shots, you don’t go out of your way to close up scenes where you are waiting for your turn, but in this work, the photographer’s state of mind is directly visualized. This creates a realistic experience, allowing you to watch the show on-site while syncing with the photographer. To summarize, even the pre-show scene and the intermission interval mentioned above are wonderful. The venue is equipped with electric lights, giving you the feeling of being at the venue. You will be able to experience the traditional Royal Albert Hall, which is something that people have always dreamed of but are difficult to actually visit. This work is certainly not the type to be touted as “exceeding the official footage!”. However, it is a video work that takes you to the site that you want to experience precisely because the official work is wonderful. The scene where Fillmore and Wright overlap their sounds, which will never be seen again. This is a piece where you can enjoy the 100% real “image right in front of your eyes”.
