Description
Gilmore’s solo tour “ON AN ISLAND TOUR” was realized for the first time in 22 years. The best pro shot has been decided to be released. This work was filmed “May 29th-31st, 2006 in London”. This is the official video “REMEMBER THAT NIGHT” created from three consecutive performances at the famous traditional venue “Royal Albert Hall”. Although it is a familiar professional shot on the official DVD, of course this work is not a copy of the official product. This is the Japanese broadcast version of the TV special program “WORLD ROCK LIVE” released in May 2008 by a certain broadcasting company with the theme of this show. There are two official videos left from this tour, “REMEMBER THAT NIGHT” and “LIVE IN GDANSK,” which are of course separate performances. This is a good opportunity, so let’s take a look at each position from the tour overview. 《“ON AN ISLAND” released on March 6th, March 7th-26th: Europe #1 (11 performances), April 4th-20th: North America (10 performances), May 26th-31st: UK (5 performances) ←★Here★ ・July 27th – August 26th: Europe #2 (7 performances) ← *Official LIVE IN GDANSK This is the whole picture of “ON AN ISLAND TOUR”. “LIVE IN GDANSK” was a special performance on the last day of the tour, but the Royal Albert Hall performance of this work was the home country tour about three months before that. Orchestral co-starring was a hot topic at “LIVE IN GDANSK,” but the key point here was guest participation. Tour members Rick Wright and Phil Manzanera appear, as well as David Crosby, Graham Nash, and David Bowie on several songs. He will be co-starring with Gilmore. The quality of this work, which features such a show, is truly superb. Of course it does not exceed the official DVD, but it is not inferior either. Although the conversion to digital terrestrial broadcasting was not completed in 2008, it was already well established in satellite broadcasting. This work is a DVD of the best master of the maniac who recorded the digital broadcast without any deterioration. Although the quality is completely official, the content is slightly different. The official DVD was a full two-and-a-half hour recording, but this work has been edited according to the program frame. Let’s organize the contents here. PINK FLOYD numbers (9 songs)・Atom Heart Mother: Fat Old Sun・Madness; Speak to Me/Breathe/Time (Breathe Reprise)・Fire: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (◆)/Wish You Were Here・The Wall: Comfortably Numb vs. High Hopes Other: Arnold Layne (★) Others (5 songs) ON AN ISLAND: On An Island (◆) / Smile / The Blue (◆) / Where We Start Other: Find The Cost Of Freedom (◆) * “◆” marks are co-stars with Crosby & Nash, “★” marks are co-stars with Bowie. …and it looks like this. It is roughly the same as the main story on the official DVD, but some parts have been replaced with different takes. For example, on the official DVD “Comfortably Numb” he co-stars with Bowie, but in this work it is a version without co-starring on the official bonus disc. In this way, the show itself is just a shortened broadcast of the official DVD, but there is also a unique production of the program. At the beginning and end, there is a commentary corner that talks about the show at the time, and each song has Japanese captions explaining the content of the song, and the MC has its own subtitles. The most interesting part is the commentary corner. The personalities that appear are Mr. Pep○, who is also a descendant of Mitsuhide Akechi, and Ms. RE○A, who has recently become more famous as a martial artist with the same name. Although both of them are half-Japanese, ○Pura speaks natural Japanese with a dandy and calm voice, and ○ENA is bilingual with some English mixed in, such as “the way Strings move…”! I’m going to talk about it with a habit of saying. Also, the content of the story doesn’t seem to fit together. PEPLA○ is clearly excited and says, “Today is my specialty!” and talks enthusiastically about the construction of solos, instruments, and personal connections, while REN○ is at the stage where he heard Gilmore for the first time on this program. Still, it doesn’t turn out to be the usual “enthusiast dad vs. female announcer”, and R○NA tries hard to push back by rephrasing their impressions of “healing” and “cool” in various ways. As expected of an MTV VJ, if you look closely, during the part where he talks about Gilmore’s bio, you can see his eyes wandering as he reads the promotional paper posted next to the camera… Even though both of them are in the “half-music” category, it’s interesting to see the difference in their abilities and careers. Although this work itself is not the kind of thing that is touted as “exceeding the official!”, there is no doubt that the quality and content are superb. For those who love the official version of “REMEMBER THAT NIGHT”, this is a collection of different versions, and for those who have never experienced it, this is a piece that you can enjoy as a sample of the masterpiece.
