Description
The “hours…” era can be called the unexplored region of Bowie’s career. The super best soundboard album is now available. What was unexplored about the “hours…” era was the lack of shows. Although there were some media appearances on TV and radio, there were very few concerts. Even including the TV appearance that became the official work “VH1 STORYTELLERS”, there were only nine performances. What is included in this work is an ultra-superb stereo sound board that mainly features one of them, “November 19, 1999: New York performance”, coupled with the BBC broadcast of “November 30, London”. Now, let’s introduce each of them in detail. [November 19, 1999: New York performance] The main New York performance was at the now defunct “KIT KAT KLUB”, but in a sense it can be said to be a sister performance to “VH1 STORYTELLERS”. In order to explain its meaning, let’s first look back at the overall picture of “Hours Tour 1999”, which was the shortest in Bowie’s history. ・August 23rd: New York “VH1 STORYTELLERS” [“hours…” released on September 21st]・October 9th-17th: Europe (4 performances)・November 19th: New York [this work]・December 2nd – 7th: Europe (3 performances) Total of 9 performances. I’m a little hesitant to count “VH1 STORYTELLERS” as a concert, but I intentionally included it because it is a symbol of this era. Even though the remaining eight performances are a series of one-off performances rather than a tour. Although it is called a tour around the world, it can be said that in reality it was just a warm-up/promotion and there was no full-fledged tour. And what makes this work a sister edition to “VH1 STORYTELLERS” is its location. Most of the 8 performances were in Europe, but this work was the only show in North America and the same New York show as “VH1 STORYTELLERS”. Another reason why we sing about sisters is that they are truly official quality. In the first place, this show was broadcast on the radio station SFX NETWORK’s famous program “HIGHLIGHTS”, and Air Check is a staple that has produced many previous episodes. However, this work is different from those that have already been released, and has been made into a CD directly from the extremely rare broadcast original. Moreover, the master is not an LP. By 1999, the master discs distributed to each station were basically CDs, and the source for this work is such a pre-broadcast CD. Of course, some of the original discs in the world are unplayable after about 20 years, but this work was created from a mint disc that perfectly preserved the data at the time. Needless to say, the quality is perfect, official sound. Since it was the latest broadcast of the biggest names in the rock world, the recording, mixing, and mastering were all done to official specifications… In fact, it was actually used as the B-side of the official single “Seven,” making it completely official. Official recording. It is also comparable to the official product “VH1 STORYTELLERS”. The ultimate sound is conveyed through a 100% digital clone with zero deterioration and zero chipping. A show similar to “VH1 STORYTELLERS” is depicted with a sound that “couldn’t be any better”. Not only is the mood different from that of an in-house studio, but the songs are also different. Although it wasn’t the full set of the day, there were a lot of delicious songs ranging from classic songs to new songs from “Hours…”. In addition to the 60’s single “Can’t Help Thinking About Me,” which was a highlight at the time, the new songs “Something in the Air,” “The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell,” and “I’ m Afraid of Americans”, as well as classics such as “Stay” and “Changes”, you can enjoy plenty of delicious numbers that cannot be heard on “VH1 STORYTELLERS”. The members who perform such sets are also different. “VH1 STORYTELLERS” is also known as Reeves Gabriels’ last show, but the lead guitar in this work is Paige Hamilton, who joined instead. Bowie fans may not be familiar with him, but he is the leader of HELMET, which was all the rage in the early 90’s as the standard-bearer of alternative metal. Although he did not become a symbol of the era, he was a talented person who created the sound of the 90s by collaborating with KORN, NINE INCH NAILS, Marilyn Manson, etc. You can fully enjoy the perfect guitar work following in the footsteps of Reeves on the finest sound board. [BBC program in London, November 30, 1999] The ultimate sound board alone, which is no different from the official one, is the ultimate, but this work also includes a bonus recording of the super best stereo sound board. It was a BBC broadcast recorded on “London, November 30, 1999.” This is a studio live performance when famous host Jools Holland appeared on the TV program “LATER… WITH JOOLS HOLLAND” (broadcast date was “December 4th”). And the quality here is still official grade. It was a rare digital broadcast at the time, and it was as good as the original New York performance. The set consisted of a total of four songs, including “Something in the Air” and “Survive,” which were also heard in the main part, as well as “Ashes to Ashes” and “Cracked Actor.” When it comes to TV recordings, the performance is often sloppy due to special projects, but this program was fully performed 11 days after the main program. Although the mood at the scene between the interviews is different, the quality and performance can be enjoyed as a continuation of the main story. Although the number of performances was small, the “Hours…” era was a definite page in Bowie’s history. This is a superb stereo sound board album that symbolizes that live performance together with the official work “VH1 STORYTELLERS”. This is a record that permanently preserves the original broadcast sound that is lost over time, and even includes an exquisite bonus track. This is the ultimate masterpiece that you should love forever alongside “hours…” itself and “VH1 STORYTELLERS.” Live at Kit Kat Klub, New York, NY, USA 19th November 1999 STEREO SBD Recorded live by The SFX Radio Network (78:44) 1.
