Description

“A REALITY TOUR” was the last world tour of Ui’s life. A new super best live album will be released from the final edition. This work includes “May 30, 2004 Atlantic City Performance”. It is a transcendental audience recording. Some people may be struck by the combination of “2004” and “Atlantic City.” At our store, we have introduced the former masterpiece “ATLANTIC CITY 2004 1ST NIGHT”, but this work is a different performance from that. A live album released the day after two consecutive performances at the same venue. What’s more, it’s a masterpiece that even comes close to quality! If you don’t know about “1ST NIGHT”, you won’t understand. In order to start from the beginning, let’s start with the overall picture of “A REALITY TOUR”. August 19, 2003: Warm-up gig [“REALITY” released on September 16] October 7-December 20: Europe #1 (35 performances) ← *Official January 7, 2004 – February 7th: North America #1 (18 performances) February 14th – March 14th: Oceania/Asia (13 performances) – March 29th – June 5th: North America #2 (39 performances) ← ★Coco★・June 11th – June 25th: Europe #2 (7 performances) [June 25th: Emergency transport due to aneurysm] This is the last world tour of Bowie’s life. The symbol of this tour is the official version “A REALITY TOUR”, which is “Europe #1” at the beginning. On the other hand, the Atlantic City performance of this work is “North America #2” at the end, and it is the 35th performance that is approaching the final stage. It was a full show that was the 12th performance from the end in Bowie’s life. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best. Although it is not as synchronized as “1ST NIGHT” which was a sound board, it is still very close. Bowie’s singing voice and performance have a very thick core and can be felt right in front of your eyes, and the separation of each instrument and the outline of each note are strangely clear. Perhaps because of the same venue, the sound output is very similar to “1ST NIGHT”. Although it has the feel of a spatial recording, such as the realistic applause of the audience, the sound is so transcendent that it almost feels like a sister work to “1ST NIGHT”. Of course, even though the sound is very similar to the same venue performance, it is a different show… or rather, the set list is delicious because it is the same venue. Here, let’s organize it by comparing it with both the official version “A REALITY TOUR” and “ATLANTIC CITY 2004 1ST NIGHT”. 70’s/80’s numbers (17 songs)・The Man Who Sold The World・Hunky Dory: Changes (★)・Ziggy Stardust・Aladdin Sane: Panic In Detroit (★▼)・Diamond Dogs: Rebel, Rebel/Diamond Dogs (▼) Young Americans: Fame (★) Row: A New Career In A New Town (★▼)/Be My Wife (★) Heroic Dream Story: “Heroes” Scary Monsters; Fashion (★▼)/Ashes To Ashes・Let’s Dance: Let’s Dance (★▼)/Modern Love (▼)・Others: Sister Midnight/All The Young Dudes/Under Pressure 21st Century Numbers (9 songs)・Heathen :Cactus/Afraid(★)/Sunday(★)/Heathen (The Rays)・Reality: New Killer Star/The Loneliest Guy/Days(★▼)/Pablo Picasso(▼)/Never Get Old(★) *Note: The “★” mark is “ATLANTIC CITY 2004 1ST NIGHT”, and the “▼” mark is a song that cannot be heard on the official version “A REALITY TOUR”. …and it looks like this. A total of 26 songs are played in this work, but among them, the repertoire that cannot be heard on “A REALITY TOUR” is 8 songs, and 11 songs are different compared to “1ST NIGHT”. In fact, when combined with “1ST NIGHT”, you can experience a repertoire of 42 songs at the same venue. This work itself is a masterpiece that marks the final countdown of Bowie’s stage life. About three weeks after this work, Bowie collapsed due to an aneurysm and never toured the world again. Although I don’t feel any foreshadowing in the enthusiastic performance of this work, it is a wonderful live album in which bits and pieces of a career appear and disappear in a group of famous songs that sum up one’s life. On top of that, this work becomes even more profound when combined with its sister work “ATLANTIC CITY 2004 1ST NIGHT.” It is two super-excellent consecutive performances where you can enjoy plenty of significantly different masterpieces while boasting a sound quality that is close to that masterpiece. The second part of the sister work that is indispensable to accompany the final stages of Bowie’s life.
