Description

In 1974, Bowie met his ally Carlos Almar and quickly became closer to soul music. The release of this superb masterpiece, recorded by legendary taper John Maloney, will be decided. This work is engraved with the “November 14, 1974 Boston performance”. The same 1974 Maloney recording “BOSTON JULY 1974: JOE MALONEY MASTER” will also be released at the same time, but as the title suggests, it is a completely different show, and this work was recorded in November about four months later. Not only the date is different, but the tour is also different. First of all, let’s check what position this show is in the course of 1974. {May: Release of “DIAMOND DOGS”} “DIAMOND DOGS TOUR” June 14-July 20: North America #1 (32 shows) {August: Production of “YOUNG AMERICANS” begins} September 2-16: North America #2 (12 shows) “THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR” October 5-December 1: North America #3 (34 shows) ←★Here★ After announcing “DIAMOND DOGS,” Bowie toured the US in three parts, among which “BOSTON JULY 1974” and the official “DAVID LIVE” were live albums of the early “North America #1”. In contrast, the Boston performance of this work is the 25th concert of “North America #3”. This “North America #3” is also known as “THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR” and is completely different from “North America #1&2”. Not only will new songs from “YOUNG AMERICANS” that have just begun production be unveiled, but a large number of arrangements that are conscious of soul music will be introduced. The members are also different, and in addition to the aforementioned Carlos, the rhythm section has been replaced by Willie Weeks and Dennis Davis. Backing vocals are also provided by a large number of “YOUNG AMERICANS” members, including his then-girlfriend Ava Cherry, Robin Clark, and Luther Vandross. A total of 14 people are participating. “THE SOUL TOUR” was a turning point, and this work is the best live album for that on-site experience. Like “BOSTON JULY 1974”, it was awakened from the master of legendary master Maloney, and is also the highest peak version selected by overseas Bowie researchers. What is most wonderful is the clarity that shines like crystal glass. It is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, and it is not without distance. However, the atmosphere is simply transparent, and there is no sense of turbidity or muffledness at all. Carlos & Earl Slick’s guitars penetrate the space straight, and Bowie’s singing voice reaches powerfully despite the presence of six backing vocalists. This period also includes the masterpiece “PHILADELPHIA 1974”, but this work is much longer than that, and you can enjoy it from the opening “Memory Of A Free Festival”. The record itself is valuable “THE SOUL TOUR”, and it is a great recording that is worthy of being its representative. The show depicted by that sound is the main focus. While the set is based on the “DIAMOND DOGS TOUR”, the new songs “Can You Hear Me”, “Young Americans”, and “Somebody Up There Likes Me” from “YOUNG AMERICANS” are featured, and “Sorrow” and “John, I’m Only Dancing (Again)” from “Pin Ups” and a cover of THE FLARES “Footstompin'” are also introduced. What has been reborn even more than that is the performance. Both “John, I’m Only Dancing (Again)” and “1984” attack with funky rhythms, and “Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me”, “Can You Hear Me”, and “Somebody Up There Likes Me” are arranged in a way that is unique to this period. There is a lot of darkness and a calm flow, and the covers and original compositions show a bold transformation. This work will be released at the same time as “BOSTON JULY 1974: JOE MALONEY MASTER”. Although each is a superb product that represents the tour, they are sister works that you should enjoy together. The same year, 1974, the same Boston Music Hall, and the same superb sound by Maloney Master. Even though all these conditions are met, they show a completely different expression. Bowie changed like a chameleon, but 1974 was a turning point. Live at Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA.
