Description
David Bowie has shown many different expressions throughout his long career. Among his history, the masterpieces from his “Berlin era” shine in a special light. A masterpiece that symbolizes a special era in which we could listen to both cutting-edge and warm melodies is “Heroes,” produced with the legendary Robert Fripp. After all, it was a revival hit that reached number 12 on the UK charts even after his death. From this fact, it is clear how deeply this masterpiece is engraved in the hearts of fans. This work is a reprint of a rare version of such a famous song. The other versions are ones sung in “English and German” and “English and French” that were only released on the German 12-inch version at the time and have not yet been released on CD. Both songs begin in English, but halfway through they switch to German or French. In this work, the valuable German 12-inch version has been converted directly to CD from the best condition, and is the best version that can be listened to at present. Although it has been included as a bonus in bootlegs such as “SLAUGHTER IN THE AIR”, the quality is a huge difference. And the splendor of a famous song brought to life with a non-English sound is indescribable. Even though it’s a melody that I’ve loved for many years, it feels very fresh. The “Berlin era” was also a time influenced by German krautrock, but the Eurorock feeling becomes even stronger when the songs are sung in German and French. In fact, krautrock, which was really performed by Germans, was sung in English, and German was limited to some symphonic bands who were particular about their own culture. KRAFTWERK is a valuable exception. Bowie at the time also said, “I used to listen to KRAFTWERK a lot,” but from “RADIO-ACTIVITY” (1975) onwards, they started making two versions, an English version and a German version, and “TRANS-ACTIVITY” (1975). A French version of “Showroom Dummies” from “EUROPE EXPRESS (1977)” was also produced. I don’t know if Bowie was directly inspired by these works, but this rare version has a strong sense of the sensibilities of this era. It is a masterpiece that symbolizes the “Berlin era”, and it is the best rare take that exudes the freshness of its sensibility. Taken from German 12″ Single (RCA PC 9821) (12:41) 1. Heroes/Helden (English/German Version) 2. Heroes/Heros (English/French Version)
