The album “Diamond Dogs” was released in May 1974, following the 60’s cover album “Pinups”, sealing Ziggy Stardust, who played a fictional star. Influenced by George Orwell’s sci-fi work “1984”, he planned to make a musical of the work, but was rejected by the author’s widow, and the concept was changed to predicting a decadent future in the form of half-man, half-beast himself. The album “Diamond Dogs” was created by changing the concept to #1 in the UK Album Chart and #5 on the US Billboard, earning a gold disc. The pre-release singles “Rebel Rebel” and “Diamond Dogs” were also hits around the world. In June 1974, the band began a North American tour called the “Diamond Dogs Tour”. It started with a large-scale stage set and a theatrical show using stage equipment and props based on the album concept, but due to huge expenses and numerous problems, the luxurious theater set was abandoned after only two months, and the next album “Young Americans” was recorded in August. In October, the tour resumed as “The Soul Tour” with a simple stage and band arrangement. This is an interesting album as a transitional work of David Bowie in the 1970s, when he changed his course completely and took a new direction by incorporating soul music during the North American tour. The first half of the CD contains the original analog sound source from the open reel master (REEL-TO-REEL) released in 1974. The texture of the sound, which is the closest to the original, is completely reproduced from the original analog sound source, which is different from the later digital remasters. The second half of the CD also includes a rare 8-track cartridge tape sound source that was only available in limited quantities in the 1970s. The album also includes a rare alternate mix with a dynamic sound that emphasizes the vocals, like mono, and different stereo separation. The cartridge tape sound source, which ignores the original, and the intermittent editing of the songs, have been reproduced exactly as they were in the original, with noise restoration. The DVD includes the reel master of the CD as an audio DVD, with a high-quality high-resolution sound source (96 kHz/24 bit PCM stereo). In addition, the 8-track cartridge tape sound source with a different mix and song order, the cassette tape sound source, which is inferior in sound quality but still features a unique song order and the texture of the sound unique to analog, and the original RCA CD first edition from 1984, which is now difficult to obtain and trades at a high price, are included. You can listen to the sound as it was in the analog era, which is different from the digital remasters currently in circulation.
