Description

Times are always flowing like a muddy torrent. Four years after his visit to Japan in 1979, where he showed a solemn stage with short hair and a cool appearance, Bowie came to Japan again, this time with a blonde hair and a flashy, showy stage. The era was approaching the mid-1980s. I can’t help but feel that there is a clear line between the 70s and 80s. From 1980, the era turned in a more pop direction, and Bowie seems to have nimbly followed that trend. The Serious Moonlight Tour, which kicked off in Brussels on May 18, 1983, ended up being the largest, longest, and most successful tour in Bowie’s history. Bowie was already famous among rock fans, but it was around this time that he became famous to the general public. The tour included a total of 96 shows. Initially, the tour was planned to focus on medium-sized venues with a capacity of around 10,000 people, but with the sales of the album “Let’s Dance” far exceeding expectations, tickets became hard to come by, so large stadiums and outdoor venues were included in the tour dates. In Japan, venues of various sizes were chosen, ranging from arenas to stadiums. The dates for the 1983 Serious Moonlight Tour in Japan are as follows: October 20, 1983: Nippon Budokan, Tokyo October 21, 1983: Nippon Budokan, Tokyo October 22, 1983: Nippon Budokan, Tokyo October 24, 1983: Nippon Budokan, Tokyo October 25, 1983: Yokohama Stadium October 26, 1983: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium October 27, 1983: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium October 29, 1983: Nagoya International Exhibition Hall October 30, 1983: Osaka Expo Memorial Park October 31, 1983: Kyoto Prefectural Gymnasium The scale of the concerts is unprecedented for Bowie, and includes four consecutive concerts at the Budokan, and Yokohama was the largest in terms of both number of concerts and attendance, reflecting the popularity of the time, including stadium performances. This work completely records the Nagoya performance on October 29, 1983 with high sound quality. Many songs were performed live for the first time, including songs from the album “Scary Monsters,” which were performed live for the first time on this tour, and important numbers such as “Ashes To Ashes,” which would later become an indispensable part of Bowie’s stage performances. More than that, the bright atmosphere that permeates the whole show makes the atmosphere of the songs different from the previous ones, even though the arrangements have not changed significantly. Perhaps this impression is due to the fact that the band, including the horns, is more luxurious and larger than before. The stylish, handsome, blond-haired Bowie sings on a glamorous stage. There is no doubt that this is a fun stage that fully conveys the cheerfulness of the 1980s. A complete recording of the Nagoya performance on October 29, 1983 with high sound quality.
