Joe Maloney, who had been recording the stages of various artists before the advent of American audience recording professionals such as Mike Millard and Steve Hopkins, even recorded the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young show in 1970. Surprisingly little is known about it. He dared to record the Boston performance on May 29th. Naturally, this was the tour where the live album “4 WAY STREET” was recorded, but the recording for it started from June onwards, and Maroney captured this from the very beginning of the tour. It will be. Therefore, the entire set list is the same as the stage after June, but the atmosphere of the stage is completely different. In the first place, CSNY held a show in Denver once in May, but due to lack of preparation and lack of consensus among the members, the show ended up being a disastrous day. So Boston was reorganized and held again. However, what is even more important than that is that it is a historic day when CSNY’s immortal masterpiece “Ohio” was performed for the first time. The shooting incident at Kent State University that inspired this song to be written occurred on May 4th, but it was only after the recent Denver performance that it spread throughout the United States, and was written by Neil Young. It was also written and quickly recorded after Denver. This is why this Boston performed it live for the first time, and it is a masterpiece that once again strengthened the unity of the group, which had been falling apart due to the incident in Denver. This sound source conveys that the performance was very serious. After all, Neil had a hard time starting playing the intro, and the fact that he checked the riff over and over again clearly conveyed his thoughts on this song. Crosby’s introduction to the song clearly shows that he is putting a lot of effort into it, but since it is still at the stage just before its release, the audience’s reaction is surprisingly slow. I can only thank Maroney for capturing such an innocent performance of “Ohio,” which has been loved as a 70’s rock classic even by non-CSNY fans. The sound quality itself is a typical monaural vintage audience, but from the middle of the opening “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” the performance becomes surprisingly close, and the pitch has been adjusted for this release, so it is better than previously released. It has been reborn in a state that is much easier to listen to than the title of the original sound source. Boston Garden, Boston, MA, USA USA May 29th 1970 TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 (61:41) 1.
