When the sound source of “LOS ANGELES 1982: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES” was released, JEMS announced that “We plan to continue to excavate CSN recordings made by Millard.” Also, a secret master recording of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s stage was released. Moreover, this time, Millard’s recording of the 1977 tour, when CSN brought along an album titled “CSN”, was unearthed, which will delight maniacs. “CSN” was a big hit in the United States at the time, and as a result, their last large-venue tour was realized in 1977. In fact, the tour that started in June was a huge success where every venue was sold out, and the LA Forum was also held two consecutive days. This timing was exquisite, and just before that, Led Zeppelin had been holding legendary consecutive performances at the LA Forum. The show that became the “L.A. FORUM 1977 FINAL NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES FLAT TRANSFER” took place on June 27th, and the 28th and 29th were the stages at the CSN Forum. In other words, the next recording after Millard completed the big work of his masterpiece recordings was CSN, and he participated in the second day’s show. He brought out the wheelchair he used in the series of ZEP recordings and recorded again. Millard, who was used to the loud sound of ZEP’s stage, was surprised by the calm volume of the CSN stage. As it was recorded at such an exquisite timing, the sound quality this time is truly amazing. Although the sound pressure is not as overwhelming as the previous ZEP because of this, it is very clear and comfortable to listen to. The sense of realism of the surroundings is captured with an exquisite balance as usual, and this is made the most of in “Our House” and “Teach Your Children”. On both tours, Graham Nash encouraged the audience to sing along, and the former in particular was captured with Millard’s rich but exquisitely balanced realism, so moving to listen to. Above all, the secret to the success of “CSN” was the calm sound that was reminiscent of the AOR that was emerging in the music world at the time, and this was also incorporated into the live sound, and the calm band arrangement throughout is very attractive. The final song of the live, “Carry On,” was not a long performance like before, and the development that fits in 5 minutes seems rather fresh now. And following the success of the album, the live was very exciting from the opening, and it was wonderful to see the audience listening quietly to the acoustic set that makes use of their characteristic harmony, and the sharp excitement shows how popular they were at the time. The 1977 tour can be called another peak of CSN. Until now, it was a stage that could only be glimpsed at the Houston performance, which had only been officially filmed but has still only seen the light of day in fragments, but this time, the first appearance sound source by a magnificent mirrored recording has been unearthed!
