[A miraculous upgrade from the master cassette to another classic audience recording of Cream, the legendary band that transformed rock!] Having just released Cream’s “Waltham 1968,” JEMS has also uploaded a direct transfer version from the original master cassette tape of another classic audience recording from Cream’s second American tour, the Back Bay Theater performance in Boston on April 5th! As with the Waltham recording, the sound quality was the best ever, and the pitch was normal, as it was transferred from the master cassette of the original recorder (it is highly likely that both performances were recorded with the same taper). Until now, the 4CD “Synergy” released by Scorpio in 2007, which was coupled with the previous Waltham performance, has been considered the highest sound quality bootleg of this recording. It was highly rated by enthusiasts as a complete recording of a monaural audience recording that is easier to listen to than the average, but the sound source uploaded by JEMS this time has been updated and upgraded for the first time in 15 years. Therefore, like “Waltham 1968”, the release on a press CD was a natural consequence. We will deliver this work to everyone as soon as possible! This work is also a groundbreaking new master sound source that rewrites the history of Cream’s Boston performances, so it must be a work worth adding to your collection with the best sound quality. [Another vivid record of the second American tour that achieved US domination! ] As I wrote in the review of “Waltham 1968”, let’s take a look back at Cream’s activities from 1967 to this tour. – January to 22nd February 1967: UK club tour including BBC television and radio appearances – 24th February to 8th March 1967: Tour of Germany, Northern Ireland and Scandinavia – 12th to 21st March 1967: Club gigs in London – 25th March to 2nd April 1967: Appeared in Murray the K’s “Music In The 5th Dimension Show” at the RKO Theatre in New York.・April 14th – May 7th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances ・May 19th – 21st 1967: Germany performances ・May 22nd – August 20th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances (including a spot performance in Paris on June 1st) ・August 22nd – October 15th 1967: 1st American tour ・October 24th – November 6th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances << November 1967, album “DISRAELI Release of “GEARS” >>・10th to 23rd November 1967: Nordic tour・23rd November to 3rd December 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearance・20th to 23rd December 1967: Spot performances in Chicago and Detroit・5th January to 10th February 1968: UK tour including TV appearance in the Netherlands and spot performances in Nordic countries・23rd February to 18th June 1968: Second American tour ←★Here★ As you can see from this, even though they were a supergroup made up of three guys who had already distinguished themselves as virtuoso instrumentalists in the UK at the time, they toured the UK, Germany and Northern Europe without a break for promotional purposes. It was also the time when they made a foray into America, the world’s largest market and the home of jazz and blues, which was the background of the three of them. The first American tour was mainly in New York and San Francisco, but after making a name for themselves in those two cities, they embarked on a long-term tour of the US, including other cities, on their second American tour, which essentially conquered the US. They performed an expanded interpretation of blues at a loud volume, which no one had done at the time, and established improvisation that expanded a few minutes of songs in the studio version to more than 10 minutes, and the outstanding technique of the three artists that made it possible. This transformed the new genre of music known as “rock”. The Boston performance, which was in the middle of the second American tour, proves this fact. Like the Waltham performance held 13 days earlier, it can be said that this performance also contains a piece of Cream’s truth. If you are satisfied with “Waltham 1968” and have purchased it, we guarantee that you will not regret adding this work to your collection. [Set list and performance content completely different from the Waltham performance] This performance was a promotional tour after the release of the new album “DISRAELI GEARS” at the time, but the set list and performance content were different from the Waltham performance. First of all, the opening song, Sunshine Of Your Love, is intense! The studio version recorded on “DISRAELI GEARS” was over 4 minutes long, but here it is the longest in Cream’s history, 16 minutes. What’s more, the reason it’s so long is not because the improvisation in the middle part, mainly Clapton’s guitar solo, was longer like other songs, but because the one-chord jam part at the ending (which faded out in the studio version) was played over and over again. In the take of the Winterland performance in San Francisco on March 9th of this tour, recorded on the official live album “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”, this part is less than 2 minutes long, and Clapton probably made eye contact with the other two and took it to the ending, but on this album Clapton hardly makes eye contact (laughs). The jam with a tremendous high tension continues. It’s worth listening to this song with the upgraded sound quality. And they play the numbers Spoonful and Sleepy Time Time from their debut album, which they didn’t play at the Waltham performance, in succession. Both songs have been played since their debut, but here the middle part is completely improvised and lengthened, making it the true essence of Cream’s live performance. In this way, this performance can be said to be a valuable sound source that allows you to know the essence of Cream on their second American tour, which has come to show completely different expressions in the studio and live. In the second half, as with the Waltham performance, there are three consecutive featuring numbers that prove the technician skills of each of the three members. Clapton’s versatility in Steppin’ Out is amazing. This is the main board that surpasses the past sound source of the same day with an upgraded version from the master cassette that appeared for the first time in Japan.
