Description

From Tony Martin’s 1992 German tour as COZY POWELL’S HAMMER jointly with Cozy Powell and Neil Murray, a set of Heidelberg performances on November 15th and Frankfurt performances on the 18th will be released. A while ago, the tour’s “BRING THE HAMMER DOWN”, a complete recording of the Ludwigsburg performance, was released, and its high-quality and fulfilling content has already become a hot topic among fans. There is no doubt that the two performances recorded in this work have even more important meaning in knowing the details of their shows! The Heidelberg performance included in Disc 1 has appeared in the past as “STARGAZER” (Langley) and has been familiar to fans for a long time, but for its reappearance, the master has been further treated, and the powerful clearness sound etc. This is the best ever definitive edition that has been upgraded in all aspects. Since this tour was mainly held at small venues, the distance between the stage and the audience seats was very close, and this work also allows you to enjoy a very direct and active sound that takes advantage of this characteristic. From “Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues”, the sound image wrapped in a fresh natural atmosphere allows you to enjoy a wonderful live recording that is like the ideal image of audience recording. However, the band’s performance has a clear outline similar to that of an SBD sound source, and the sound with each part clearly separated will bring new surprises and discoveries every time you listen to it! “Back Where I Belong” and Mario Parga’s guitar solo that follows is not only highly technical, but also has a sharp edge and classical elegance, and it’s amazing how this band ended with just one tour. I feel so sorry for what happened. Another feature of this album is the surprisingly lively recording of Neil Murray’s bass lines, such as the floating bass lines on “If It Ain’t Worth Fighting For” and “Crying In The Rain.” The notes are the best samples that allow you to fully enjoy the sound of this quiet technician. The flow from this “Crying In The Rain” to “Ride To Win” including Cozy’s solo is exquisite and reminds me of the peak of WHITESNAKE in ’84 when Cozy and Neil were enrolled. The familiar scene where the apparently Japanese audience cries out for an encore at the end of the drum solo is alive and well in this work. “Headless Cross” and “Since You Been Gone” were played in response to this, and the result was a “COZY POWELL’S HAMMER version” where each member’s playing skillfully blended together, even though the original characteristics of the songs were completely different. Even if it is played continuously, it naturally gets excited. I’m really jealous of the owner of the voice who was able to experience this fulfilling live up close, but the high quality sound of this work also gives you the feeling of being at the venue, promising a wonderful reliving experience! The Frankfurt performance on the 18th recorded on Disc 2 is a take that will appear for the first time. The show, which starts with the intro of “Mars” that opened the show, is different from the Heidelberg performance in terms of song order and song selection, and depending on the song, the arrangement is different, so everything is worth listening to. The sound taste and personality are different from Disc 1, and the deep sound fills the space and creates a tighter sound image, making it ideal for enjoying the band sound of the members working together as one. Also, Koji’s powerful and direct drums that can be heard here are so powerful that all rock fans will be knocked out by “Stargazer”, his first song in 12 years since his RAINBOW days, and “Long Live Rock’N’Roll”. Sho! In the BLACK SABBATH number “Anno Mundi”, you can see the difference in the arrangement mentioned above in the opening, and Disc 1 where Martin starts singing with a keyboard in the background is the same as SABBATH’s “TYR” tour, but in the take of Disc 2, the guitar and keyboard are the same. It has been replaced by a style that starts with a unison. This is also common to the arrangement of the same song on SABBATH’s “CROSS PURPOSES” tour, and the fun of listening and comparing each song is also scattered throughout the show. Cozy’s drum solo was cut when “Ride To Win” was mastered, so unfortunately only the “1812 Overture” part was recorded. However, from here to the end of the show, “If There Is A Heaven”, which cannot be heard on Disc 1, is played, and “All Night Long”, which continues like a medley from “Headless Cross”, has a different flow from the Heidelberg performance. It has become a great listening spot for the Frankfurt performance. From the opening to the ending, both performances were filled with entertainment and professionalism that thoroughly satisfied the listeners, making them the best live performances that you will want to listen to over and over again. RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH, please take this opportunity to enjoy a special live show that fans of any band can get to know regardless of their boundaries!
