Description

“DEFINITIVE NAGOYA 1993” is a live album by the legendary unit COVERDALE/PAGE that has been called the “best masterpiece.” A masterpiece album with the highest content and quality is now available as a standard edition. [The “top” live album by the recorder’s treasured DAT] “DEFINITIVE NAGOYA 1993” was a super masterpiece worthy of the honor of being a “masterpiece.” It is an audience recording recorded at “December 22, 1993: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium”, which was the last show of COVERDALE/PAGE, but in the first place, four types of Nagoya performances were known, varying in size. Among them, “OVER NOW” and “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE LAST NIGHT ON TOUR 1993” have been considered the two biggest in terms of both quality and length. “DEFINITIVE NAGOYA 1993” is a direct CD of the “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE LAST NIGHT ON TOUR 1993 (already released)” Omoto master DAT. I was shocked from the moment I played it. The previous release started with the appearance of the members and “Absolution Blues” started in about 40 seconds, but the original recording started even earlier, and about 11 minutes of pre-performance scenes were saved. Of course, in this work, the female voice saying “The performance will start soon. If you have left your seat, please return to your seat as soon as possible” is completely recorded without leaking the vivid atmosphere, but that is the original master’s It’s just evidence. Even more shocking is the sound itself. It is far, far more wonderful than the masterpiece sound that was once called the highest peak. Moreover, the difference is not just subtle, but obvious to everyone. Previous releases were also extremely clear, but this work’s bass is clearly thick and rich, and the overall balance is well-balanced. For example, “Kashmir”. The main riff, which is composed of a bass drum and snare loop, roars, but in the previous release, the bass sound is frivolous, so the performance sounds floating. Furthermore, the good balance is noticeable in the treble. The existing ones are depressed, protruding, and strangely uneven in places. If we take “In My Time Of Dying” as an example, the vocals and guitar stand out without blending into the performance, and especially when the delay is applied to the high tone of the vocals, it is strangely distorted. In contrast, this work has no such unnaturalness. The sound itself that would have been played by the on-site PA with a completely natural balance continues throughout the whole story. The cause of these shortcomings is unknown. Perhaps it was due to poor equipment from the early days of CD bootlegging, or perhaps the best possible equalization at the time backfired… Please don’t get me wrong here, but the previous release was an unparalleled masterpiece. Without this excavation, the above points would not be included among the drawbacks. It’s a super superb sound. However, this work surpassed even that. This is a live album that has surpassed the peak because it has precisely picked up all the beautiful sounds that the original DAT absorbed and made it into a CD with precision. [A great performance that gave legendary shine to the foamy unit] Although the sound is the pinnacle in this way, that alone does not make it a “best masterpiece”. The important show was also the top. The reason lies in the activities of COVERDALE/PAGE. The album “COVERDALE/PAGE” reached No. 4 in the UK and No. 5 in the US, giving Page the second success since ZEP and Coverdale’s career-high single “SERPENS ALBUS.” The world tour was canceled due to poor ticket sales (at the time, there was talk of a recession due to the Gulf War and changes in the music scene, but judging by the chart success, it is a bit hard to believe that the performance was so bad that it was canceled). As a result, their only stage was a short Japan tour. Moreover, this was only 7 performances. Our store reports on various masterpieces, so let’s organize them here.・December 14th “KNEES AND PRAY (Nippon Budokan)” ・December 15th “BUDOKAN 1993 2ND NIGHT” – 1 day travel & off-day ・December 17th “YOYOGI 1993 1ST NIGHT” ・December 18th: Yoyogi National Stadium – 1 day move & off-day ・December 20th “PRIDE & JOY (Osaka Castle)” ・December 21st “OSAKA 1993” ・December 22nd: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium ←★This work★ *Representative works on each day only. …and it looks like this. Their first stage is “December 14th” and their last stage is “December 22nd (this work)”. Since they only existed for one week, each performance was a process of growth. Speaking of the 7th performance even for an ordinary band, it is about the time when the engine finally warms up and starts to show its true potential, but when it comes to COVERDALE / PAGE, it is even more noticeable. In particular, it is Page’s first tour in five years, and as the second half progresses, the combinations become more sophisticated and the ensemble becomes more complete. “Shake My Tree” can be said to be a symbol of this. While Page is playing the theremin in the middle, it starts with the signal of Denny Carmassi and shows off the surprise of almost a full chorus performance of “Whole Lotta Love”. This is not just “lucky to have one more song”. Up until this point, they had been improving their level of proficiency with more or less fixed sets, but it was only after seven performances that they were able to have enough leeway to include some “play”. This kind of “leeway” can be felt from every part of the song. Nowadays, all seven performances can be mentioned in some kind of record, but the level of skill that permeates through to this margin is why it is said that “Nagoya is special.” Although the Nagoya performance is the “last of COVERDALE/PAGE,” it is not a record of the schedule or a memorial value, but it shines in a musical sense. “DEFINITIVE NAGOYA 1993” was COVERDALE/PAGE’s last live album and was praised as a “best masterpiece.” The splendor created by Omoto DAT caused a shock, and it was sold out and out of print in the blink of an eye. However, its musical value is even comparable to the original album “COVERDALE/PAGE”. There should never be a situation where such a super masterpiece cannot be obtained.
