Description
A newly excavated sound source has been released, with a good stereo audience recording of the Detroit performance from The Who’s farewell tour in 1982! The Who’s opening act, which produced many great performances thanks to the contribution of the first drummer Terry Chimes, who was called in in a hurry due to the accident of Topper Headon’s dismissal immediately after the release of the album “Combat Rock”, was the opening act for the stadium tour. A new excavated sound source has been released, with a good stereo audience recording of the live performance held at the Pontiac Silverdome, a huge facility that can accommodate about 77,000 people, on September 30, 1982! It has been digitally transferred directly from the newly excavated master cassette, and although the sound image is close to mono with a narrow range, the vocals are large and each part is well balanced and relatively easy to listen to. It is a pity that the first half of the opening “London Calling” is missing, but the rest is completely recorded. On this day, they were in a completely away situation, with fans of The Who, who were the main band, booing and demanding that The Who come out soon, but as the second song they selected “Police and Thieves” arranged by Dubby, and with a set list centered around songs from their then new album “Combat Rock”, they put on a powerful and strong performance, despite a mixture of boos and cheers, with the great support of the original drummer, Terry Chimes!
