At the center of that sound was Marcus Gilmour, who is now sought after by all musicians and is also known as the grandson of Roy Haynes, the drummer whom Chick respects the most. It was difficult to decide on a bassist to play the rhythm section with Gilmore, but in the end they decided on Carritos del Puerto, the son of an original member of Irakere, Cuba’s great Latin jazz band.
